Academically overall they are probably comparable

not really. but thanks for playing.

UNT is Tier 4 (US News)
TTU is Tier 3 and I don't believe I need to get in to specific scores, app rates, etc....(someone else will, I'm sure)

If they were the same or comparable then UNT would be a front runner with TTU and UH for Tier 1 status.

Neither Texas Tech nor UH is a front-runner for Tier 1 status in the context that you're referring to it.

Not a knock on Texas Tech, but it's much closer to UNT than it is to Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU, etc.

Maybe "comparable" isn't so far fetched, though TTU is ahead of UNT in terms of expenditures, endownment, etc.

I am referring two it in two different formats. UNT is a US News Tier 4 institution and TTU is a Tier 3. Neither is close to making the jump to the next Tier per USNews criteria.

In terms of becoming a Tier 1 national research instituation like A&M, UT and Rice instead of an "emerging research institution" like TTU is currently known....UH and TTU are the frontrunners. This is well known. UH may have a slight lead overall....

By this same logic, wouldn't you say that TTU and A&M aren't comparable?

A&M has more money than TTU. By a mile. Which usually means A&M has more resources. Which means A&M has more noteable faculty on staff as a result of more money. Which means A&M has some well educated high schoolers amongst its ranks due to the high ranking profs. Which means it is probably ahead of TTU in terms of overall academics.

To which I counter with, TTU can become a part of the A&M/UT world (in respects to academic standing) if it can get the funding that the state is hanging out there like a carrot. It is TTU's to lose and if we somehow **** it up and don't get that funding then we'll resort to being UNT-like for the rest of eternity.

Money talks.
