Please don't say the acceptance rate is so high because of the top 10% rule either as just over half of the 2008 admitted class was in the top 10%.
Um, buddy, let me help you out here, sweet tits. Approx. 60% of A&M's incoming freshman class were in the Top 10% of their class. That means that A&M had absolutely no choice BUT to accept them. So, only 40% of A&M's incoming class was an actual CHOICE for whether to accept, or reject. We had 26,000 applications for this class. Let's assume for the sake of not having the information exactly, that this same rate is representative of the applicant pool. That means that out of the 26,000 applicants for the freshman class, 15,600 (60%) were admitted BY LAW. So that leaves 10,400 people that the school can actually make an admission decision on. That means that of those 10,400, A&M admitted 2,600. So, of the students that A&M could actually make a decision on, they accepted just at 25%.
Sorry, but A&M and Tech are not academically on the same level. Tech was able to make an admission decision on 80% of their applicant pool. So you can say 'don't use the Top 10% rule to justify..." all you want. It doesn't change the fact that it's exactly the reason why our "acceptance rate" is that high. Looking at that number in absolute terms in order to make an argument that Tech is just as difficult to get into...makes you look like a total moron. There is absolutely no rational individual out there that doesn't understand that. I realize you want to take up for your school and find things that you can use to argue for it, but please. Stop. A&M is on another level, it just is. Just like Texas is. Do you see us trying to argue that we're up there with Rice and Vanderbilt? No, because that would be ridiculous. That's how you look trying to this. Seriously. Tech is a good school, but just quit.
