OMG. I just found this thread. Some of the photos and links did not age well, but those that did are well worth the time!

This house is pretty tame compared to a lot of the ones on here... but it's worth sharing. It's one of the more expensive homes in the neighborhood. Someone went nuts with the faux pain and ceiling appliques. LOTS of ceiling appliques. And rope lighting on the fireplace. It's just a lot of MORE.

when I did my MBA at Rice one of our projects in Data Analysis was to model home sales prices from a database of West U home sales. %A0The # of bathrooms appeared to provide more value to the sales price of the home than any other factor.

Funny - the Prof had a four bedroom house in West U that he built with seven bathrooms

It looks like almost all of the houses that were on any tour of homes in the Travis Lake area in the early 2000s. All super tuscan (or Sopranos lol), all well done because it was before the rest of the world bought in to that trend, and I'm sure it cost somebody an arm and a leg whenever they remodeled all 8,000 sq ft of the place.

We have some friends with a giant house (15k sqft I think) and they have a similar setup.

"Remodeled" in real estate parlance frequently means slapped on some paint and put in new cheap flooring.

Stainless dishwasher and microwave I think are from the late 2000s... I'm gonna say unoccupied 7 years? The extreme filth that's not related to exposure to the elements suggests that a hoarder lived there.

There has to be some kind of story to all this, there's way too much drywall and other half-assed construction stuff going on there. Not sure if it's an inherited house -> landlord in over their head situation or what. Maybe someone partially paying rent by "working" on the house. Seen that one come up before.
