Just wow. It seems like I blinked and the value of BTC rose $5k.

How do taxes work with BTC? Do you only owe taxes on the BTC you convert back to dollars if you made gains on it?

Bought 500 tokens back in early Jan at $.11 and watched them move sideways mostly, until recently with all the NFT and virtual realm explosion. Hopefully my MANA and Enjin blast off over the next 6 months.

I'm seeing a lot of similarities to past market bubbles with NFT land, art, etc. Is there any reason to think that this will sustain longer than a few months-1yr?

Harmony One. I got a bag at $.02 and it has exploded, I believe it has lots more room to grow even in short term.
Enjin. Same as above except I got in late at $1.04

I see it as a bubble as well. No valid reason to believe in it's sustainability other than vanity. It is an ownership of "rare" authenticity much like an original Picasso kept for value not the art itself. The music industry aspect is however intriguing.

You probably could have bought later or in morning around $58k but no biggie...it will hit $70k before April 1.

You said you bought in at $61k, and it is like $60k now. I think $1-2k swings will be pretty common at this level of value.

Yeah there are some uses for NFT... But owning a .png file or a trading card doesn't really feel like one that will last.

It's all just data.

Physical art or digital, just data uniquely attributed with unique characteristics and subjective value based on chemicals released by the brain and human desire to "collect" things.

Who knows. Maybe transhumanism will rid us of some of the game theory/neuroeconomics at play.

It's all about priorities. Dwelling on missed opportunities does nothing for you in the present except drive you to Xanax and SSRIs.

Love for ones wife and kids and the feeling you get when you feel it being reciprocated is better than having 10000 BTC sitting in cold storage somewhere. You've got it good.

Agreed. My kids are glorious, my 4 yr old knew what a blockchain was before most of texags, "blockchain for babies" by Chris ferrie is a good book.

PS, it only took a decade of non-stop talking about bitcoin et al, and November of 2020 my wife stated "Kevin you were/are right about bitcoin"...so I got that going for me.

Okay folks. Apparently Bitcoin can rise significantly over the weekend and the Chicago futures cannot trade. This creates gaps in the futures. Historically these gaps get filled.

Example: A big run up on Jan 2nd and 3rd (weekend) on bitcoin caused a gap in CME (Chicago Mercantile Exchange) futures. I guess they can start trading at midnight on Sunday but not during the weekend. So, the price dropped 17% by about 5:00 a.m. But, by later in the day, BTC had rebounded about 15%.

Long story short, BTC could drop over midnight and hit that gap ($58,300). If/when it does, you should be able to see a good return over the next few days if you buy the dip (need somewhere to set up a limit order because it may happen early in the morning).

I'm going to probably set up a limit order at around 58500 with 10X leverage. If it doesn't get picked up, when I wake up I can assess what happened. If it dipped but didn't pick up, I'll try to get in for the ride. If it didn't dip, no harm-no foul.

FYI, BTC has a nice bull flag on the 4 hour. After weird shenanigans with this CME gap, she could reach $72,000 in a few weeks.

***Edit**** may have missed this. CME may have already fixed the gap and now the run is starting.
