yeah it looks like robinhood can use legacy, segwit and native sewit addresses per their website. Does anyone know which has the least fees?AggieT said:
I'm not an expert by any means… I use native segwit to move BTC to and from Coinbase. Assume Robinhood would be the same, but wait for somebody more familiar to comment.
Definitely move a few bucks in and out of the wallet and get comfortable. Erase the ledger and set it back up with your seed phrase to make sure everything is still working for you. Definitely worth the $5-10 in fees to gain confidence.
If ALT season is really around the corner with BTC exploding up, literally everything will rocket. The part you need to worry about is not what you are buying, but if you are selling before it all crashes again.Done7 said:

question, If I decided that i wanted to convert a portion of my 401k to BTC, what is the best way to get that done wrt taxes and penalties
It sounds like rolling over to an unchained IRA is the play, curious if anyone out there has used this
but do you own the coins ?woodiewood said:You can buy bitcion in your Fidelity IRA or 401K. I buy $250 of bitcoin every month automatically. https://www.fidelity.com/crypto/tradingBag said:

"Do you own your crypto on Fidelity?
As a trusted custodian, Fidelity Digital Assets manages the private keys for accessing any crypto you purchase, using the same institutional-level security it's offered customers since 2018. In our managed custody model, you own your crypto assets, and we protect the private keys but do not provide them to users"
Fidelity also has a bitcoin ETF if a person wants to go that route, but I don't believe you actually own bitcoin going that route.
You can get your keys. You just have to have it transferred fo Coinbase and then get your keys. It is cumbersome. According to Fidelity, in early 2025 they will have it where you can directly get your keys.Bag said:not your keys, not your...woodiewood said:Yes.Bag said:but do you own the coins ?woodiewood said:You can buy bitcion in your Fidelity IRA or 401K. it all seriousness, it is personal preference, I am only willing to own BTC that I manage the keys for
the seed words to your coins. most people write them down on paper, which is fine, but this little kit is fire and flood proofThisguy1 said:

That seems like a dumb question but I'm oblivious to this.

If just starting, yes that is probably a good start.
Keep as many coins offline, and only use Coinbase as an on/off ramp and to trade. Another route is Uphold. I use Uphold as on/off ramp, but not for trading as their fees and spread are too high.
If you get deep enough into crypto and look at alt coins, there is a whole other world to learn.

New to buying Crypto and not real computer savvy. Any tips or videos you suggest an old ag watch to learn how to secure crypto. As of noow just using coinbase account. Thanks for any advice.

You can buy on Coinbase and just keep hold on there. I've been doing it for a long time with no issues at all. You can also stake some coins on their platform. Super easy.Lightning Dexter said:
