Real Rates Getting Crushed..10 Years Higher by 15 Basis...30 Year off 3.5 Points

We are seeing real rates in the long end get crushed today... 10 years, which had been negative yielding on tips this morning, is out 15 basis today to positive .14.... 30 year tips are out 3.5 points and accelerating... This has caused new high yield in the cash 10 year of 2.99, but it is only out 5.7 basis... Long bonds have seen new high yields of 3.06... Big changes as perception on real rates is changing... This has brought break evens for 10 years down to under 2.85 from 3% area..THIS IS THE BIGGEST TWO DAY MOVE IN 10 YEAR TIPS SINCE MARCH 2020... FROM NEGATIVE 15 ON THURSDAY TO ALMOST POSITIVE 15 TODAY.

The Big Moves In TIPs...Real Rates... and the Yield Curve Steepening

We are trying to get our arms around the big move in real rates today...as we said earlier 10 year tips has moved from -15 basis Thursday close to +15 now...we think part of it is the theory that the Fed will chicken out a bit as the recession fears increase... That helps to explain the steepening of the yield curve today.... But it still does not explain why 10 year real rates are plummeting as nominals are increasing... The 10 year nominals (10 year cash) would be 3.25 yield today if not for the collapsing tips rates... So we have more to do to comprehend all the moves... But the equity market just got wind of what the tips markets are saying, and equities are taking a hit.... FED WEEKS ARE ALWAYS VOLATILE... This one should not be a disappointment.
