I would agree with Spoony, but with a little different perspective. I am from a small town; moving to College Station was the big city for me and the first time I had air conditioning and cable TV. I now live on some land my parents bought about the time I was born. Today I worked on the lawn mower, mowed the pasture with the bush hog, worked on the fence for the cows, fed the horses, picked vegetables from the garden, fed the chickens and gathered eggs. Then I jumped on the 4 wheeler and drove through the pasture to my mom and dad's to sit with them on their porch overlooking their pond. And picked up the two granddaughters to eat popsicles with me on the way. Ended the day sitting by the pool watching the sunset with bats flying overhead. For me, it was pretty much perfect. But if you grew up in Dallas or Houston, it will be a major adjustment. Shopping is pretty much Walmart and Amazon. The nightlife is looking at the stars. The work is pretty much 365 days a year if you have animals. And unless you are big enough for employees or have friends or family to tend them when you are gone, it means travel is a big deal. But I wouldn't live any other way.Spoony Love said:
I'm going to be completely honest with everyone on this board. Doing it ain't easy.
My wife and I moved out of the Houston area with 3 kids. From a 5A school to a 2A school.
I still work full time e and the wife only works two days a week. We are growing a small farm and providing our own food in the mean time.
Everyday is a new set of challenges. Everyday brings opportunity for a new lesson. Weekends are filled up with projects. But I go to bed completely exhausted.
I wouldn't change it for anything though. If it's itching, go and see what it's about. It ain't easy but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I enjoy our weekend philosophical discussions. I like to read others dreams and hopes, because why do we do any of this except to make our lives richer, not just our pocketbooks.
