I've learned a ton in less than a year here thanks to many...OA1.. McInnis (or the three of you).....FJ.....30k....mostly froggy... .prog...farmer....ranger

And one thing I learned was hedging....been sitting on hands for weeks but the other day bought August spy put. Today account was red but would have been bloody if not for the put
Obviously hate red day....but learning!

Yes, at $10.70 entry, I believe this is accepting a $0.2 loss if it breaks the wrong way after earnings and raises to $10.74 cost basis of it goes high. Ultimately, after reading a bit this morning following OA's post, I'm hoping for longer term return from the income with this, but 400 shares is probably a bit high in exposure for my taxable portfolio. If it breaks up, I'll sell CC on half at an ITM strike higher than my entry.

And hoping I'm not ****ing the strategy up on it this time


I feel like my short term plan for ET got screwed in the butt a little with one of those weird toes.

I had covered calls on all my clov shares expire worthless today. Cut my cost basis in that by 60%. Still wishing I was called out but I'll take it.

Looking at the 3month and 6month MACD for WWR makes me think I should exit out for a bit. Anyone else feel this way?

I'm ultimately long on it anyway, but it does look bearish to me here soon.

Gotta ask... do you live in Texas and if so, where are you finding Yuengling? Found it in Florida on vacation back in May and I miss it. I did hear rumblings that it would be in Texas soon, but never heard anymore.

I'm the same here. This is a long term hold for me but I can't decide if I should lighten a little to take some risk off as well as have more available to buy at a lower price.

Good mornin gents!

Quick simple SPY look this morning when the dust settled.

Well.......yuk. Not the best looking posture on SPY.

Sitting on the 50EMA.
Outside of long term trend.

Will we have a repeat of mid May and a reversal? Dunno. Next week could be telling. More downside movement into 411, 406, 398 possible. Has felt heavy at the top. Still feel like we'll have one more try upward but that's not a technical feeling.

Does it have enough steam to maintain and breakout of the flag? Dunno. Tech has shown relative strength catching up recently.

Gotta ask... do you live in Texas and if so, where are you finding Yuengling? Found it in Florida on vacation back in May and I miss it. I did hear rumblings that it would be in Texas soon, but never heard anymore.


They started brewing it in Fort Worth back in May, I imagine you'll be able to find it a lot easier soon

I have been thinking about doing some analysis on quad witching weeks but this is a good idea of what happens. It's not a run up week. It's a week where so much retail money is captured by expiring options. We've got to learn to play it that way.

One morning this week someone made the comment that Apple was about to rip. Without looking at the chart I just said not this week. This isn't an "I told you so" but rather a lesson in what this week is. It's a huge cash transfer from retail to institutional. Sell options and play short term but that's it. Don't play long with this week's options and expect it to go well.

I'll still do some analysis before next Quad and report what I see. Probably look at week of and week after S&P price action. If anyone has other thoughts let me know.

FJ43 - the attached news story link came up on my news feed this morning. I dont know the guy. I'm not an Elliott Waver. He is indicating something similar to your post.

Morning!

Quick read while grocery shopping but seems to align with my initial thoughts after digesting the chart a few minutes this morning. Possibility down to as low as 398 with maybe some stop(s) in between. Then another move upward before a larger pullback.

Later I'll update the long term trend with a secondary uptrend to catch the wicks back in May and see visually where that ends up projecting.

Just spit balling thoughts before I buy a cart full of baby back ribs to wear out this weekend.

FWIW, the last 5 minute candle of last week also had >1M, so I'm not sure if first/last candles of a day should be excluded from the requirements.
