Guys, I'm interested in selling puts on VIAV. I'm looking at the 11/20/20 expiration $20 strike price puts. The stock is trading at $13 and change right now.

I want to make sure I understand the steps here. If i'm selling the put, I capture the bid price as premium, correct? If I sell one contract, it looks like it will pay me $640. If later, the stock rises above $20, i'll buy the shares if put to me for 20/share, but my net price would be roughly $13.60/share.

Did I get this right? I'm good with owning the shares.

Also, the mechanics of selling/writing a put require me to "Sell to Open," correct?

Your help is much appreciated.

OSTK at 70....I sold 75p's for NOV at $10 each........seems most puts I sell these days go under book value.

If the stock rises above 20 at expiry, nothing happens, you keep the premium if you hold all the way to expiry. If the stock is UNDER 20 at expiry and you still have the contract out, you take possession at $20 a share but you still keep the premium you received to sell the put.

If you want to ultimately own those shares for $13.60/ea (a $~0.50 premium currently) this is a probable way to accomplish that goal -- unless you're expecting ATH out of this stock by next month.

I sold 70s, 10/23 expiration. I thought this was high probability/safe. I'll make money over $68, but still.

10/30 70p's for 7.7 for me, I just got out for a 30% gain because I'd rather have the cash going into the election
