This...working in O&G plus the overall market taking a dump has made it a rough few weeks. I'm in early 30s so can manage it but painful to look at

Definitely going to look at shorting one of these. Other casinos will be right behind them. CZR might be a better short candidate if they haven't announced closure yet in the morning because they inevitably will.

The US won't let the banks fail. If the banks fail it will mean the entire world has crumbled, as we're still the nicest house on the block, and all that green won't help anyway

I think you have to close the market. We don't have an economy if consumption is only allowed via grocery store and small gatherings.
I'm not sure how you settle the outstanding options, is there a solution for that?

I just received word that the President of Honduras has ordered all non-essential businesses to close for 7 days. They have SIX, that is 6, cases of coronavirus and all were from travelers entering. Not a single case of communicable transmission within the country. Also, now all LatAm countries are doing the same.

We are under attack by globalists. A virus that is dangerous to elderly or those in poor health is taking countries to their knees? I do not believe it.

The thing is the selling is justified... Our economy is likely temporarily shrinking in all categories except online, health care services and grocery. Even those are threatened if many of their workers or suppliers get sick. Businesses across many industries could go under. This makes 2008 look likes child's play if this keeps snowballing.

There was a scenario years back (can't recall which year) where they locked futures Limit down right when opened, similar to today. Since they are locked until the open you'll have selling overnight from 4am est to the open naturally.

The year this happened it was a trick and markets opened rocketing upward. I don't see that happening this time but it did give me that remembrance.

I suppose if you saw a strong open coming off the opening bell limit down release then you'd be a buyer, in that scenario.

In the end, it will be impossible to know if we did to much or overreacted, it will be quite apparent if we did too little. My personal view is you're severely underestimating the effect the disruption of public health and medical services is going to bring to everyone's life. Using just death rate (a stat that will not even really be legitimate until all the cases are closed) to encapture the essence of what is about to happen is myopic. Let's revisit this statement in 15 days. The countries who were hammered by SARS and swine flu and came up with a plan they executed early this time are doing reasonably well right now.

Selling these VIX $62.5/65/70 3/18 calls will be juicy tomorrow, see yall in a few hours for pre-market.

Once I see what the coming bailout plans will be I may try to jump in MAR puts, they have yet to update guidance though all their peers have.

An I the only one who's terrified by the Feds dramatic action today? Between the elimination of banking reserves to the near 0% interest rates, I'm not sure what I should expect in the near or long term.

As an investor, I don't see this as a sign of strength and assurance, I see it as a klaxon wailing in the night as our doom approaches. Will it be stagflation or deflation though?

Probably not sounding that coherent, and I'm just putting my thoughts into writing. I'll probably continue to buy equities at increasingly lower levels like a lemming walking over a cliff.

I just can't believe what we're doing fiscally and monetarily over the POTENTIAL effects of a virus. Are we witnessing the death of the financial system?

Every market open currently around the world is well in the red, vix futures up 20% right now. There is probably going to be a buy up early but it will more than likely open close to circuit breakers again.

Will they stop short selling soon? I wasn't doing much other than buying index funds when 2008 happened.

I started trading stocks in '07, a year after graduating. So my learning experience was during the financial crisis. I like to say that I was forged in the fires of Mordor.

I don't think they can stop short selling or would want to. To state things in an oversimplified way, for all the puts that MM's write, they are having to hedge like crazy by shorting. This is also true vice versa for calls. This is why we're seeing these massive limit-down, limit-up scenarios.

When they stopped shorting back in '08(?), the market dropped further because it lost support. Without shorting, the only thing left to do was sell. Crazy times.
