It was a Fox News article with a notification that flat out said Fauci says to avoid airplanes and cruise ships. It was written 180 different than an NBC article I read right after. So, that Fox article won't be helping things any.

LUV, JBLU, ALK, and SAVE are the pure domestic plays IMO essentially. Some of those airlines have international, but it's not to areas with widespread Corona.

If oil is really headed to the $20s, we're sure to have a rash or bankruptcies in the independent O&G space. Would shorting $JNK be the right move? Or is there another way to hedge against these companies defaulting on their debt?

Much different this time. It's not the Saudis directly attacking US shale this time. It's an oil war between KSA and Russia and the US shale will be "collateral damage"

That being said, commodities do not go to zero very often. At some point backing up the truck to oil will make sense again.

I have to wonder if driving the price of oil would be great at slowing the trend toward electric vehicles since filling a car tank will be incredibly cheap as will the cost of production of many many petroleum products. Renewables could become crazy expensive by comparison. Perhaps this momentary moment of our industry sucking could be a win in the longer term?

Aramco went public and low oil hurts it pretty bad. SA doesn't want oil down here but they want to punish Russia and Iran and will take the hickey in the short term to prove a point. JMO

ETA: It will also crush Texas shale companies too.

The only way electric takes over completely is infrastructure and cost effectiveness. Obviously infrastructure is ramping up, but making gas cheap will definitely quell electric car buying.

It would take a sustained depression in oil prices to start impacting renewables projects that are on the board but not yet started.

Many of those projects aren't solely dependent on economics factors. Some are to meet state/regulatory standards and mandates.

Renewables are here to stay and will only increase as we go forward. Natural gas generation would be an attractive option if people (states/communities) were willing to sign on new natural gas generation capacity. Right now, they aren't - all fossil fuels are lumped together for better or worse.

We've seen a mega shift in domestic E&P focusing on free cash flow. I suspect most have done so to appease the street but also operate leaner in these types of times. We will see.

Yeah, to go a little further off tangent I put down the $100 deposit for the new Tesla truck. Cost competitiveness of electric versus gas didn't play a role just thought it looked cool. At a certain point the EV's just have their own appeal factor. The idea of not needing to go by the gas station is a nice bonus but honestly losing the credit card reward points came to mind before anything.
