I've definitely been gravitating towards leaps more lately. I haven't positioned myself well and made a few bad plays where the theta just crushed me too quick. I'm finding I like the additional time even if it means a lower return in the near term.

Me too. However it would probably be worth tracking the leap as well as the corresponding monthly or whatever time frame contract to see if over a large period of time you'd be better maximizing gains with shorter calls or reducing volatility with LEAPs.
