For the John Carter folks, on $TICK, do you set any clouds or moving averages?
I keep an 8 period and a 21 period MA just so I can tell if the short term trend is moving counter to the longer term trend.
No clouds or anything, doesn't really fit the ideal.
What I do is I have a box from 500 to -500 that I consider "noise". Activity in here is really worthless to me. It's just average moves during the day. (pink area)
I do have lines at 800/-800 1000/-1000 1200/-1200, these are my "activity" lines. If we touch the positive numbers, those are decent sized moves at 800 and 1000. At 1200 is MONSTROUS activity that can't be sustained. Same for the negative numbers. They all work together to tell me what's up.
I used to set alarms like Carter mentions in his book on the BIG negative and BIG positive numbers to fade them. I don't do that so much anymore.
