Mcinnis already covered it but i just typed this all on my phone so here goes anyway

If market closes 1/15 and aapl price is 225.00, your option is at the money (atm) and worth nothing. You lost the $160 (1.60 per share) you paid for the contract. Any price below that (out of the money/otm) and it's also worth nothing. Any price above (in the money/itm) and you have the option (get it?) to exercise and buy the shares at the discounted price of $225/shr. You can also exercise at any time before the expiration date, whether it's it., atm, or otm. But it usually doesn't make sense to do so (unless you're trying to snag a dividend but let's keep it simple). For the most part we sell options before they expire, as the price fluctuates with the price of the underlying equity as well as a few other factors, and generally your premium decays as you get closer to expiration.

Really you need to just do it and it'll make sense. Buy a call and sell it. Buy a call and exercise it. Sell a covered call of something you have 100 of and let it expire worthless. Do it again and get your shares called out. Sell a cash covered put and let it expire worthless, do it again and get assigned shares, then you'll have a pretty good understanding of how most of this stuff works.

I need to make up my mind which direction this market is heading so I know what to buy. I look at a couple of long positions and can't pull the trigger worried about an inevitable rug pull that is coming; so I change gears and start looking at short positions, but I don't have enough conviction in my rug pull theory to justify buying puts, etc. Dilemma....

Trend says go long still. Keep some VXX, SPXS, etc in your pocket in case you don't believe the trend. Don't be like my guy at work who went all cash 3 months ago.........still hasn't gotten back in.

firemen need to be decisive or people can get hurt.

Just go all in on TSLA because it only goes up unless it splits (then it goes down slightly for a while).

I think Ranger mentioned $TRIL a week or two ago, and that one has been a nice steady increase each day.

My hope is a Christmas season bump pushes my contracts well into the money. I'm in on 225c expiring Jan 15 so my fingers are crossed

BIGC took a big hit today so the volatility is THROUGH THE ROOF. You can sell puts there for a ridiculously pretty penny.

Based on the MBIO tweets posted earlier I thought we were in for a hell of a day. Hasn't been the case so far.. charts starting to look like a potential run coming soon. Then again, I'm a chart noob. Lots to learn.

Amen to that. I added more VXX calls today, just weeklies, hoping to get a little VXX rip at some point this week and I'll sell them and aim to roll profit in that to next week.
