For simple tasks it works fine. The problem is when bureaucrats stateside decide they can scale into areas outside of simple process design. Culture is a big problem where KPIs are completion and timing based, not accuracy or work product base. For the people left in the BUs it creates a less than ideal experience.

Hearing CXO/COP started announcing Permian cuts today. Anecdotal but, it looks like the entire accounting group is gone.

Good luck everyone

I have heard the Midland office is closing down and most folks will be let go.

I have the Midland office is closing down and most folks will be let go.
I heard the same, but just from support, not ops. Don't know what to make of all that Midland office space now...

The entire Concho office or just the support groups?

I don't believe Operations is leaving Midland, at least not for the foreseeable future. Groups like Land Admin, Acct, IT, HR will be either moved to Bartlesville/Houston or laid off most likely.

Also, I don't believe any cuts were made today at either Conoco or Concho, but employees were notified that layoffs would occur week of February 15th. As for some specific groups, I've heard they have been notified that they will have to be willing to move to Bartlesville and submit a resume to be considered for a position there.

FWIW this part is pretty much what I heard and it was from someone who just got "the call" today

Seems to make sense that they would centralize support functions

With all these layoffs it sure sounds like a significant portion of the workforce is being cut across multiple companies. I wonder how much of this is the D&C groups (and associated land/accounting) now that rigs are being laid down. If they are the development group personnel let go that tells me that they don't plan on ramping up the rig count anytime soon or they are attempting to do more with less. There's just so much talent on the streets it's unbelievable.

A huge part of the available workforce needs to leave oil and gas because it isn't coming back. The money just isn't there to support the drilling we were seeing for the past decade.

I think 90% of those people would be happy to leave O&G to find a similar paying job elsewhere. There isn't an industry that has supported so many high paying jobs like O&G.

At this point it becomes a US economic unemployment problem rather than an industry problem. I'll stop here before I get political.

One of the times I was RIFed, I decided to get out. Several places wanted to offer me, but their excuse was the same. They were all concerned that I would jump back in once the O&G field heated up again. They knew the salary differences.

In the same boat. Husband has done nothing but applied for out of industry jobs since his layoff and it's gone nowhere and we are assuming because of the expectations that someone that has spent his entire career in oil and gas will prob jump back in. The furthest traction he has made job searching out of industry is just putting himself out there with people that he is networking with while working side jobs so they know he is willing to work doing whatever. And he is land so we really never expected his job to come back but NOW we really don't. Brutal.

I can imagine it's tough to exit O&G and have prospective employers truly believe you won't jump the moment the patch fires back up.

A good friend of mine lost his job at CHK and he's found himself selling heavy construction equipment since then. Typically I think your best bets are going to be sales job like that.

Well not quite 10 month mark but Mr. Diesel has a ride along this week to see if he wants to be an area manager for a company outside of O&G. It would involve PTO, health insurance and a company truck, none of which he had before. Fingers crossed but the company tracked him down and wanted to make sure he was still interested instead of the other way around.
