I have about $20k in oil stocks right now. I bought them all in January at 2 year lows. I don't need the money, so I think I'm just going to forget about them for a while. When the market picks back up, and it's not just a short term bump, I'll check back in on them.

Give yourself at least a 3 - 5 year horizon and you should be fine.

That's what I'm thinking. One day in a couple of years, I'll look up and they'll hopefully be back above where I got in. Until then, I'll just collect dividends. They all have a pretty high dividend yield.

Anyone care to predict when US production slows? Most people say second half of 2015 but nothing has shown that is coming...yet. Last figure I saw was 9.7 milion bpd last week which is a record high in recent times. Rigs have been dropping since the end of last year but production has gone up nearly ~7 straight months. Incredible.

Thats what i thought. I heard someone on the radio pronounce it the wrong way this morning and the cheese nip reference had me wondering if I was pronouncing it the wrong this whole time.

I am working an effort with them right now, and I get different pronunciations from then all the time. From the "peep" to the "nip". Never bothered to ask if they are making fun of their own co name.

Back in April, I made a bet with those in my office that these stocks were going to those levels by year end. I projected their forward earnings as best I could using their production forecast and the EIA price forecasts and for their valuation to make sense with their potential earnings the next 2 years, CVX will be at 70 and XOM 73.

I'm not a valuation expert, just did some simple math and made some simple assumptions.

I was at their spool base in Alabama a couple of years ago for the load out of flowlines for a project. They pronounced it like it rhymed with "Cat Nip" Maybe just a South Alabama way of saying it
