Probably a game back. Even in a 3 way tie, we probably lose out.

Dropped 3 series to SEA, LAAA, and OAK. Basically replicated our road trip, but at home. Decent chance that the next 30 games just determines which one of these bean bag chairs host the WC series.

Houston is not good…they are where they are because we choke against them. That 4-9 series record against them is their saving grace.

But no more us on their schedule and we play better against non-AL West teams, which means we only have to deal with one more series against Sacramento and one at Seattle. That makes me feel a lot better for the Rangers postseason chances

Needed that W with this weeks gauntlet coming @Sox and @Brewers. Hopefully we can manage to split.

I feel optimistic about this upcoming road trip... seems like we only suck against the AL West and are pretty decent against everyone else.

This is a very weird team.

But but but dfa everybody, fire skip, sit half the roster to teach them a lesson, we have to have guys who want to win blah blah blah.

Lot of you are either bleeders or have no concept of this franchise pre-2010.

It's late August and we are in the thick of a playoff hunt, if you are complaining about that, find another sport to watch.

Oakland beat the Astros by doing what i've been screaming about all year. They intentionally walked Yordan 3 times.

It's sad that Kotsay and the A's are smarter than old Skip.

Interested to see where they go with the guys that had lockers today, I assume go on the road trip, and aren't on the 26 man. I guess that's just Osuna and Peoples.

Also, what's the o/u are k's against the Miz?

I know we're all watching the slap fest in the west but could use some more help from a's and LAA this week as they play Cle and Twins.

Block Captain Bobblehead is the best!

Not me! I remember when we won the AL West in 1994, 10 games under .500.

I will stay on Skip as he has not been all that was said about him. Wished they'd let him go to another team when there was interest before he was hired.

Hopefully, Skip is smart enough to schedule Seager's weekly day off on Friday vs Miz. However, he might go back on the IL after the HBP today.

Skip is the rangers version of jason garrett. Boring monotone interviews and the team doesn't play fired up or inspired for him

The jury is still out for me on Skip. He's dealt with a lot of key injuries and brought up guys who would otherwise not be on an MLB roster. Those guys have over performed. You have to give the manager some credit for that.

I could go either way on Skip. The roster he's had to manage has been *****

The same thing was said about Bochy before the postseason run in '23

Bochy had the postseason track record. Regular season not so much.
gigem1223
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bochy didn't have much postseason success until his 4th season. Skip is in his 3rd. It's been mentioned before, but this team has faced a lot of injuries and Skip still has them right in the thick of it heading into September in his first year.
Proposition Joe

And I think 2023 should have taught many of us (myself included) that leaning on guys that have routinely failed in the regular season can be a method to really see what you have to work with come postseason.

If many of us had our way, Josh Sborz and Ardolis Chapman would have been sent to the moon long before they were handed a ball in the 2023 postseason.

Sure, there's something to be said for leaning on your guys that are producing. But you can't win with just 1-2 "reliable" bullpen arms, and you can't hope that the guys with mediocre results in the minors are a better option than the guys on the big league club who have least shown they can get big leaguers out.

3-3 over the next 6 would be pretty big.

I fully expect them to win 5 of 6 from the Sox and Brewers and immediately get swept by the A's.

Regarding Osuna and Peoples, I'll assume they will be designated as our Sept Callups. The question will be what happens with them for now. I'll assume they remain with the club. if that's possible.

Roster management will be interesting the next 7-10 days.

Position players:
Osuna on 40
Higgy and Jung on IL10

Several players need to figure some things out: Carter, Lopez, Diaz,

Pitchers:
Peoples on 40
Eovaldi on 15IL
Leiter on 60IL. Back soon.
Garcia on 60IL. Not sure target for return.

Gray, WInn, and Monty need to solidify themselves, if they want to be carried.

All of that will depend on health, of course. That often works itself out.

Hopefully we can get a few games up and see our SPs get a bit of a rest going into the playoffs.

Astros dumped GM Dana Brown.

I don't think it is much of a surprise. Not sure it impacts the Astros the rest of the way. I do see the Astros fading and missing the playoffs.

Their schedule:
3 @ NYY
3 @ NYM
4 v CWS

Their rotation:
Pecko (23, RH): 1GS
Lambert (29, RH): 22GS, 2.68. His 122.1 IP exceeds his previous high of 89.1 in 2019. 4GS/6.98 ERA in August this year, so far.
Wesneski (28, RH): 5GS, 4.23
Brown (27, RH): 14GS, 3.51
Javier (29, RH): 8GS, 6.47. His 40.1 IP exceeds his IP the past 2 seasons.

NYYs go Warren, Cole, Schlitter and could sweep. 1-5 could be the Astros record in NY.

IMO, Lopez should not be long for this team. He gave us a good month of production but it's been abysmal since at least the ASB. You replace his left handed bat with Osuna and need to make Walcott the September call up. Especially if he's starting to give stuff in the field. Walcott was 1 for 2 with 3 BB, 2 SB, and 4 R last night.

The team needs to be swinging for upside at this point. They need some juice. Adding Osuna to a team that already has Lopez, Freeman, and 3 catchers won't cut it. One of the catchers will be replaced by Jung eventually (hopefully).

IMO, they should be bringing him up now. I understand the service time, but they need the bat. When he is ready for the field it's an added bonus
Vessel
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I haven't seen anything but I do wonder if they want him to play the field for at least a few games before making the move.

The one issue is that it's a lot of right handed bats. And Nimmo may be left handed, but he's a reverse splits guy.

It's not a problem for me, but it's something I could see a club looking at and justifying keeping Lopez around just because he's left handed.

That's one game. Who knows who the Ps were?! I looked up and Sam Armstrong was the Twins' AA SP. His a 25 yo who hasn't pitched above AA and mostly a JAG. Unranked as a prospect. 5.11 ERA in 20GS/28G.

Prior to last night, Walcott was 1-21 w/7SO.

He is at AA. Could he be a spark and transition to MLB at 20 and be impactful? Sure, but I think we have better options than to add a DH-Only guy. Remember, he is recovering from TJ. The reason he isn't playing the field is to protect his healing process. You bring him up to MLB and as a DH only, maybe a SB guy... that's a problem. Not sure I'm throwing him in as a PH against Ps he has never seen.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
If Walcott is added to the 40 and there is a work stoppage in 2027 then he won't be able to play in the minor leagues during the lockout.

Lopez doesn't need to be an every day player but I think he's a useful player for this team.
Vessel
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That's fair enough on Walcott, but we'll have to agree to disagree on Lopez. The OBP is .230ish since the ASB and he doesn't slug.

I would rather have Cauley. At least with Cauley you have a right handed CF for days you don't want to play Carter against a lefty.
CowtownAg06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yall need to see what's going on in Houston.....

Dana Brown out and now Espada has been told he won't be back next year but is choosing to finish this season. We better not finish behind a team trying to die.
