This team needs to be sellers at the trade deadline. It's clear over the last two years this team is going absolutely no where the way this roster is constructed.

Detroit will receive right-hander River Ryan, outfielder Zyhir Hope, and righty Brady Smith, adds Passan.

As much as I think the Dodgers are an issue in baseball for things like the way they pay Ohtani, Kyle Tucker etc. This trade is also a major indictment on the Brewers, Yankees, Rays, Braves and even Tigers. The Tigers for not paying Skubal at all, but the others for not stepping up to the plate to match that paltry offer from the Dodgers. How bad do we really want to win when the best pitcher in baseball over the last 3 years can be had for Hope (literally and figuratively), a future bullpen arm and a lotto ticket. And that's considering the Dodgers prospects are overrated by the league historically. Unbelievable. This sport needs so much help.

What frustrates me more than anything isn't the fact that they have those prospects, it's that they are so good at goaltending those prospects in trades.
Seems like they manage to somehow acquire better talent than we do in years that we are both buyers at the trade deadline and they pay significantly less than we do for that superior talent.

This Skubal trade tells me that the rangers should have no problems getting the pieces they need with minimal prospect

somewhat off topic but relevant to the conversation….
Does anyone know, or remember, if the minor leagues continued playing during the last strike/lockout? I seem to remember that they did….if I'm not having a senior moment and that was in fact the case, I wonder how the new construction of the minor leagues would be impacted. In other words, now that MLB is running the whole thing, I can see the minor league players being locked out or on strike as well….which from a developmental standpoint is an added layer of suck to an already crappy possibility/probability.

The fan short sightedness of trading prospects to help a .500 team have a 50/50 shot of making the playoffs and then have a 10% chance of winning the WS is maddening.
Those same fans will be upset in 5 years when the team isn't any good because they kept trading top prospects and not winning anything.
