Astros have had pretty terrible results (luck) on trades in recent years. Mancini (.622 OPS) & Vazquez (.585 OPS) in 2022, Sanchez (.611 OPS) in 2025, and now Varsho (so far)

Pitching was a little better with Verlander ('23) and Kikuchi ('24), but damn. Can we get at least 1 hitter that performs?

Our hitting acquisitions are all from the garbage bin value tier

We are now tied at .513 for that important 2-seed

Amazing how this last couple months have played out

If they finish as the 2 seed, then Espada should be Manager of the Year. Now, THAT would be crazy

If that happens, he better just hand it to Yordan

Speaking of Yordan, how is his triple crown pursuit going?

Last night, the White Sox made a hilarious blunder. In the first inning of the game with 1 out, after their pitching coach has already been out to visit the pitcher, the manager went out for a mound visit, which meant they had to pull the pitcher. They had no one warming up, and the bullpen had to cover 8 2/3 innings. All this after they had used 8 pitchers in their previous game that went 13 innings. Nobody does incompetence quite like the White Sox.

Did they forget they already used a visit or did they forget to start warming anyone? Either answer is so bad

I think it's the first. I read a story on the athletic about it and it sounded like they tried to stall by arguing with the umpires while someone was scrambling to warm up in the bullpen. In that situation they wouldn't allow extra time for a guy to warm up like you would with an injury.

He leads MLB in BA at .328. Arraez is next with a .323 BA, but he's in the NL. Only one other player from the AL is in the top 10, TBR's Diaz at No. 9 with a .296 BA.

Yordan leads MLB in HRs with 35 notwithstanding the recent dry spell. TBR's Caminero is tied for No. 2 with a bevy of NL players with 33 HRs.

Yordan is No. 3 in MLB in RBIs with 86, but has a 7 RBI lead over Detroit's Dingler (chuckle) at No. 5 with 79.

So he has a decent to large lead depending on the stat, but he's been treading water the last few series to a certain degree.

He might not win triple crown but as long as he stays healthy he's a runaway for AL MVP

Always fun to revisit this clip. A few notes:
  • Bagwell's elation - still hate him as our shadow GM of course
  • Servais and his VERY punchable face
  • The kid jumping up and down with the Seattle fan who wants to slice his wrists
  • I miss Dubon
  • Tucker actually showing emotion
  • Verlander's excitement
  • Dusty's hug, I really hated him towards the end of his tenure here but that's a great moment
Here's to Yordan creating more of those memories!!!

You only need to look at AL player stats.

No doubt. The triple crown is a cool title, replete with history, but it's not very relevant anymore.

If Caminero had 1 more HR, .001 better BA, and 1 more RBI than Yordan he still wouldn't be more valuable or be a better bat because Yordan would have a much better OB % (many more walks), slugging % (many more doubles), and a better OPS.

Yordan also has 5 GiDPs vs. Caminero's 21 (which leads MLB). The offensive WAR numbers would reflect that difference as well as most of the advanced stats.

Speaking of Servais, that jackass is a senior advisor with, you guessed it, the Padres.

I cited each AL 2nd place player and the relevant stat # for that reason.

A lot of the game telecasts have highlighted that only 4 players have achieved the "Major League Triple Crown" (leading both leagues in all 3 categories). Yordan is pretty close to being in that position.

And, he's got basically nobody protecting him in the lineup. It's not like Peña hits behind him. Plus, other than Yordan and Peña: woof.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Yordan is in a slight homer "slump" right now, but he's still mashing pretty good. No homers in last 8 games, his longest drought of the year. As an old timer, I'd love to see him get the triple crown (AL only), as it is truly an incredible achievement. I think the HR race will be the closest of the 3.

we could start the countdown to Yordan's award

Trout set the low bar in 2018 -- winning the MVP with only 134 games played

Yordan has played in 115 games so far -- 19 more to clinch

so with the A's (45-71) and Angels (45-71) floundering...

both the Astros and Rangers should make the playoffs

and a wildcard or division series meeting would be very likely

White Sox are finished with the A's and Angels

Guardians have 6 games left

That, "just turned this game...up-side-down" and " Altuve...has just sent the Astros to the World Series" are among my 3 favorite moments in sports history.

I still get goosebumps bumps watching those videos.

As someone who grew up with the 90s Astros, who always failed in big moments, the last decade has been incredible. I went from fully expecting the Astros to find a way to blow it to knowing that someone is going to come up clutch. Altuve, Yordan, Correa, Springer, whoever. I doubt I'll ever see anything like the Astros run from 2017 to now. Even with this year's team being very down, I know that if they can just find their way to playoffs, once we get there, we are going to make some noise.
