I would trade Pena and Paredes yesterday.. Neither of them factor into our plans in the future so get everything you can out of them. I'd consider moving Brown as well. You should be able to get quite a haul for those 3 and set up a future run, hopefully. I'd never trade Yordan.

THIS and I'd add in HB as well.

We DFA's Pearson. This is just the Royals saying they want him before he's available to everyone else.

We had or were planning to designate him for assignment and this was a trade to avoid losing him for nothing off the waiver wire.

Nate Pearson... who they DFA'ed 4 days ago. Guess we should be impressed they didn't lose him outright? Why didn't KC just nab him from the waiver wire?

Ahhh.... yeah, they didn't want to take the chance of losing him to a team with higher priority.

This is where I'm at. Tear it all down and rebuild the farm system.

troubling numbers from Altuve...

he has 14 GiDP's and 1 GiTP

with 53 at-bats with a runner on 1st and less than 2 outs (i.e. the double play is in effect)

so 28% of the time he hits into the GiDP when it's available

Any coach worth a lick would see this and get him out of the middle of the order.

And any decent GM would notice if his terrible manager doesn't see this and fire his ass.

So are we about to squander an incredible sellers market for Pena and Paredes for the hope of a wild card round loss?

for me, both Pena and Paredes are essentially rentals given next season's uncertainty. There's a limit to the value you can gain in a trade under the current circumstances. Not saying you definitely don't make a move, but it's not gonna be a silver bullet top-50 prospect.

You're right, we should sit on them and get nothing for them.

Thanks Drayton!

I think the difference between a top 100-150 prospect and a comp pick after a qualifying offer is not that much to argue about. That's also part of the reason for trying to reset the luxury tax threshold penalty, so we can start recomping the picks at a higher draft value.

Send Brown to Tampa for a couple high prospects and 1 MLB ready player

So long as Dana adjusts his idea of MLB ready to mean "better than AAAA", then yes. Cam was MLB ready and he's been pretty underwhelming sadly

9 Days until the deadline.

I asked Copilot about when trades happen.

Days before the deadline ('21-'25):
0-2 Days: 118 trades, 25.6%
3-5: 96, 20.8%
6-10: 82, 17.8%
11-15: 49, 10.6%
16-20: 28, 6.1%
21-25: 24, 5.2%
26-31: 25, 5.4%
30+: 12, 2.6%

Not shocked. Things should pick up in a few days. But things should also be happening right now.

I thought he meant to trade Dana to Tampa for prospects and I was all about that trade.

We are smack dab in the middle of the biggest cluster. I don't think there's any way we do anything other than stand pat and nibble around the edges. I desperately want to, but I don't see a GM who's fighting for his job to do anything rash.

Cam was far from MLB ready. He only spent half a season in the minors before we traded for him. He just got hit during spring training and we had zero OF's worth a damn. Dana knew he'd be destroyed in the media and by the fans if he didn't have him make the team out of spring training. At best, Cam should have been a September call up last year. Poor kid has probably had his development stunted with "on the job training". Really his only downfall is pitch recognition…which should be taught in the minors…not the mlb.

I honestly don't understand all of the criticisms of Dana's trades. It's everything else he sucks at. But he hasn't lost a trade yet. I think he'd do great and get great returns if allowed to sell off. But he'll never be asked to by Crane…and he'll never admit defeat on the year and suggest it.

While I would tend to agree about next year, the experts are saying it's such a small market for RHH this year at the deadline that they could bring back much higher than usual returns.

If Luhnow and company were still our front office I would absolutely trade JP and Isaac. But I don't have much belief at all in the current brain trust so not sure I would make those 2 available. And I say that as a big Dana supporter initially. He just hasn't shown much in my opinion.

Anyone know why the ASB was so late this year?

Doesn't make sense to me that MLB would place the ASB so close to the draft and so close trade deadline.

I hate coming out of the ASB with 60-some-odd games left. That ain't right

Guessing this is just another fix what's not broke move by Manfred and MLB.

Did we really give up anything of value for Sanchez? No. We had to salary dump Dubon and got a decent platoon player back for him. Dubon was getting shipped out regardless. Did we give anything up for Burrows? No. Just because Sanchez and Burrows didn't work out doesn't mean he lost on the trades. Let's say Lopefido works out as a lefty platoon OF…Sanchez trade is a win. Burrows has 4 more years left of control…even if he's no more than a 5th starter or reliever for the next 4 years, that trade is a win. Melton was never and will never be anything but a AAAA player. We gave up nothing.

Sanchez underperformed, but he was exactly the kind of player we needed and still need.

Dubon for Allen was bad in a vacuum, but he freed up money, which we spent on Imai. Hindsight says it was money poorly spent. At the time, we'd all trade away Dubon to afford a big-name arm.

Burrows has been a big failure. But we didn't exactly give up that much to get him. He was the perfect kind of arm we used to add and turn into a stud. I think the org is just worse now.

Overall, each individual Brown move has been fine on paper. They make sense, and we don't seem to overpay. The results don't always work out. As I have said before, I don't see Brown as a big picture vistionary type.
tjack16
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Maybe we didn't lose with Sanchez, but you're saying there wasn't a better move out there to get a better bat? I'll give you that one and say it wasn't that bad at the time, and only really sucked in hindsight.

Also if you were going to trade Dubon to get rid of salary, you should've at least gotten an arm out of it instead of just a worse version of him.

We didn't give up anything to get burrows except for about 10 games this year where he killed this team on the mound. Not making that trade would have made us a better team this year.

I don't think managers generally hold hitting into double plays against a player or consider those type of things when filling out a lineup card. That's just a biproduct of the way Altuve swings and his aggressiveness, and hitting into double plays is typically more a matter of luck and circumstance than anything else.

That's the thing, I don't think Cam was MLB ready. He'd only had one full season of minor league ball. It's pretty obvious he needed some seasoning in hindsight, and I think Dana just rushed him because of our lack of OF options and to help justify the Tucker trade.

Edit: I was reminded later in the thread that he had less than a full season of minor league ball.

Maybe they didn't want it interfering with the early rounds of the world cup when there were games on Tuesdays.
