troubling numbers from Altuve...
he has 14 GiDP's and 1 GiTP
with 53 at-bats with a runner on 1st and less than 2 outs (i.e. the double play is in effect)
so 28% of the time he hits into the GiDP when it's available
Any coach worth a lick would see this and get him out of the middle of the order.
And any decent GM would notice if his terrible manager doesn't see this and fire his ass.
I don't think managers generally hold hitting into double plays against a player or consider those type of things when filling out a lineup card. That's just a biproduct of the way Altuve swings and his aggressiveness, and hitting into double plays is typically more a matter of luck and circumstance than anything else.
If a player who swings at everything and hits a large % of ground balls and is routinely coming up to the plate with runners on base, said player is a constant inning ender threat.
Altuve needs to be batting in a place where the mindset is "get on base", not "drive in runs". His days of being an MVP candidate and major RBI producer are likely over.
Therefore, a manager not considering his actual results when generating the lineup is being incredibly irresponsible.
