I wouldn't sell any of our meager assets trying to put lipstick on this pig. Knock yourself out getting rid of underperforming assets, you ain't gonna get **** for them. Even if by some miracle we make the post season it's not going to be a deep run. '27 is likely shortened or lost altogether. Start working for '28.

What are we paying Walker $20M per year for if not to drive in a run now and then when every at bat you have has men in scoring position.

Devastating loss tonight… if you can't win this type of game, you're cooked.

CW can't hit a fastball to save his life but our illustrious manager keeps batting him cleanup. What a joke.

So bust it is.

I'd give Cam a shot at cleanup. See if his numbers in the 4 spot were a fluke last year or if the pressure to perform there helps him focus.

Last night should be the last nail in the coffin. I don't want to hear about how the cavalry is coming with Blanco and Wesnieski. I don't want to hear about how adding a mediocre LH bat and a #3 starter will suddenly make us a contender. This team has way too many holes including, as we saw last night, the bullpen.

We need a hard rebuild. Not a "soft reset" or a band-aid here and there. The golden era is over and honestly has been for over for a year. IMO, every player should be available for trade. While I HATE to include Yordan in this, man would he bring an absolute load of talent if we were to deal him.

IMO, at minimum for a hard rebuild we need to trade Pena, Walker, Paredes, Hader and Brown. Yordan ONLY if some team offers us a deal we simply cannot refuse.

Its sucks, but man we have got to start thinking about the future, which is probably 2028. Get what we can get now and quit ****ing around.

Way past time. And I hate to even say this, but Altuve retiring would be a big step in the right direction towards a rebuild. That might be what it takes to wake Crane up to reality.

That's five series in a row where they've lost the first game. Always playing from behind.

They just had almost a week off. Playing at home after having been on the road. No fire in the belly.

Ill-prepared. No where to point but a lack of leadership.

The owner is sitting on his hands. Dugout has their finger up their backside.

Espada is a joke and the team will be a loser as long as he's in charge.

They been ****ing around for a while now. 3 straight years without a playoff victory? It's amazing how no one sees this and it's been able to just roll on like we're still in the golden era

another frustrating thing about this season...

the Astros have made major improvement in 2 key categories

- home runs: rank 3rd in MLB in 2026...after ranking 16th in 2025

- walks: rank 14th in MLB currently...after ranking 26th in 2025

but those improvements are not paying off on the payline (wins) so to speak

We went from 21st in runs to 12th so I wouldn't say that is true. Last night was just one game. The biggest problem has been the SP which is at or near the bottom of the league.

Overall the bullpen has been fairly solid with the exception of King during his last several outings. However last night's loss should be blamed on the lack of clutch hitting by Walker and Altuve. If I recall we had 11 runners left on base. Only giving up three runs should win a lot of ball games.

I am not cheering for the Astros to lose but I am hoping they do something bold enough in either direction to force the front office into decisive action

And yet, Dana and Crane will likely attempt to thread the "reload" needle again. Good luck, considering how the offseason moves worked out.

Welcome to extended purgatory.

Altuve moves into the cleanup spot

Walker down to the 5-hole

the 7-8-9 outfield is back...Cam, Dezenzo, Spence

It'll work really well today, Walker will finally hit the ball and then Espada will move him back to where he will suck

Reason to Wonder if the AL West Even Needs a Playoff Team
The AL West went 0-5 last night and was outscored 50-8.

Reasons to Smile
Baseball is back, sort of.
Lucas Spence had a nice debut. They should really just start rebuilding and see who can play and who can't.

Reasons to Barf
I don't know, all of it?
Bryan King appears done as a reliable reliever.
11 LOB, 1 of 7 with runners in scoring position.
Altuve at .232 and Walker at .234.

Astros Flashback: July 18, 1994: Charley Kerfeld was in the house for this one! After falling behind 11-0 to the Cardinals in a nationally-televised Monday Night game, the Astros rally to a 15-12 win over the Cardinals, scoring 11 runs in bottom of the sixth. Young Charley, home from college, is working as a baggage handler at IAH, making fat money and slowly dying of dehydration. When his mother suggests saving the money for the future, he replies that the "future is now" and purchases a single-seat, 20-game ticket plan to see the Astros over the next 3 months. The Cardinals' dream-team bullpen of Frank Cimorelli (1/3 IP, 4 ER) and Bryan Eversgerd (0 IP, 4 ER) are on the case for this amazing comeback. The comeback is powered by the unlikely combination of Tony Eusebio (3 for 4, 2 RBI) and Andujar Cedeno the worst player in history to ever hit for the cycle who goes 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Young Mike Hampton, all of 21 years old, vultures a win by pitching 2 scoreless innings of relief.

And now, the newest sensation, sweeping the nation.

Completely off topic but I'm rooting for the Pirates this year. Those fans deserve better than what they've gotten the last 30 years and their team is solid this year. Maybe we can make a deal with them that makes sense for both team (then this season, us in the future)

I REALLY wish Joe would move Altuve back to leadoff in front of Yordan where he was more effective and drop Peña to the 3 spot behind Yordan to protect him.

THEN go Paredes, Walker, et al

That would be good for Altuve, but the light flipped on for Pena when he got moved to leadoff last year because Altuve's subby little legs were too tired running in from left field.

Pena is hitting > .300 with an OPS > .800 in 141 games combined hitting leadoff between 2025 and 2026. He's a much bigger part of the office now than Jose, unfortunately. He has to get on base so Yordan doesn't have a Rob Deer season where he hits 32 HR and has 65 RBI.
SpaceCityAg05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That is based on the premise that Peña would revert if moved out of the leadoff spot. If that is true, then I agree.

However, I am not sure I agree with that premise.
