52 My parents did not have me until they were in their 30's after my father got back from Vietnam. Biggio Coached at St. Thomas like I said. I didn't say he coached me. When I was young and went to Nolan Ryan's House. He asked if I wanted a signed baseball from him. I asked him if he could get the whole team to sign it. :-) Also going back generations people had more children and if you were one of the younger ones that clears up the age gap. They were rice farmers they had a bunch of kids. Chambers and Brazoria Counties.

My DAD was born in 1915. He was 43 when he had me. I have brothers that 11 years older than me.

My grand father was born in 1876, I am 67, Not sure when my Ggrandfather was born but I think it was 1848.

I'm 61 and my GGF was born in 1874 and my GF was born in 1917.

But he was in prison twice before he was 25, once in Huntsville and escaped from there so he was late to family life.

I'm not trolling anyone. People were talking about away series they might go to. I'm going to that one.

There are a lot of MLB players living in the Phoenix area and they don't all sign with the Diamondbacks. It did help them sign Corbin Burnes this off season though since he lives in Scottsdale but is from somewhere else.

I hope I have supplied enough information. If not please tell me where to send the blood sample. :-)
Back to the topic. Do we overpay Bregman to make the team better this year and buy time for the farm system to get in decent shape? Or do we roll the dice and try to win the division with what we have now and reload next year when a bunch of money comes off the books?
I know this is not our decision, but a hypothetical if you were the GM of the Astros.

I'm 52. Grandfather born in 1910. Dad was born in 1940. I didn't go to some snooty private school in Houston. Went to public school in Booger County.

Bregs offer should drop the longer this drags out.

We still need a left handed bat. Bregs does not fix that.

My grandfather was born in 1927 and is still around.

Not really relevant but he's a tough one

I have no idea why this is part of this thread but my grandfather was born in 1883, father in 1922, me in 1957 and son in 2003 (he played a golf tournament today with his brother that's 20 years older. Does that mean we won or lost?

It means 6 more weeks of waiting for Bregman to realize he ain't getting 6/200 from the Red Sox.

I love this thread because it puts so much info in one place. Without it, it would have taken forever to figure out when all of your great grandfathers were born.

You talking about Robertson County Texas? Yeah that would have been a really long drive to St. Thomas.

We do need a bat preferably a Left handed batter, but the pickings are getting thin. So I would do a deal with Bregman. If Cam Smith makes turn him into an outfielder. Then add another piece for the 2026 season when a bunch of the dead contracts we are still paying drop off the books. JMO

Because the poster First 1836 was challenged as being "MF Barnes" (gosh that is getting so old and is nothing more a ad hominin attack)

The reason? Because the poster who challenged him said the that the claims of 1836s made could not match up because of the potential birth dates of grand parents. HE WAS WRONG.

That does not validate 1836, it does invalidate that posters accusation that 1836 is lying because of the DOB of grandparents BS.

I gotta say, off-season threads can be pretty off topic, but I didn't have a trip down Ancestry Lane as a part of my Offseason Thread Bingo card.

No more genealogies today.

Rookies limit one post per day.

Bregman is Kendrick Lamar's surprise guest at the half time show to announce he's coming back.

What's the furthest back y'all can trace ancestors? I take it with a grain of salt, but someone in my family found a supposed direct line to someone in the 1200's. Got a few more believable lines to the 15th century. Most only go back to the 19th century, unfortunately, including my family name

My 8x great grandfather rescued Davey Crockett from the Alamo by stealing Jim Bowie's knife and killing 800 Mexicans with it. The two of them then built the Battleship Texas by hand and sailed it down the Brazos River to La Porte, where they defeated Santa Ana , then kept him captive at the top of the San Jacinto Monument until Sam Houston arrived and cut Santa Ana's head off with his great sword, made from Valyrian Steel.

Anybody doing any Astros road trips this year? Boston last year was 10/10 bucket list. This year we are doing Yankee stadium in August

We haven't decided yet. We do one a year. KC 2 years ago, Boston last year, I'm pushing for Colorado, Seattle, or Pittsburgh.

I've seen the Astros play at Wrigley in two different years, in San Francisco, and Atlanta. Trying to get to see them play the Orioles when I'm in DC for business in August. I haven't been to Camden in almost 30 years.

Usually I try to go to a new stadium but this year with NYY we are already going to be there that weekend so it worked out. I've already been to Yankee stadium but My wife has tentatively agreed to go to the Friday night game at Wrigley before A&M vs ND. So that'll be a new stadium

Me and my roommates from A&M have been going once a year for about 10 years now. We've done Boston, old Arlington, KC, Arizona, Colorado, Cleveland, Washington DC, and Chicago White Sox. We saw a game at Wrigley while in Chicago as well.
This year we're going to Baltimore the first of June and then driving over to Pittsburgh to watch the Astros play the Pirates.

Pittsburgh is the park I really want to go to. My cousin lived there for a few years, but selfishly moved to North Carolina before I could come mooch off of him.

I forgot we did the new Arlington stadium as well. My dad used to take business trips to Baltimore all the time and has always raved about it.
Pretty excited about Pittsburgh as well.
Boston is easily the best we've been to so far. Colorado and KC were pretty great also.

Pittsburgh, Baltimore, San Diego, and San Francisco are at the top of my list for sure. So I'm glad to knock two of them off this summer!
I've had several friends go to Seattle as well and have heard good things about the ballpark.

San Diego is really nice. My brother and I went there a couple of decades ago on a random lark during a family reunion and wound up seeing Greg Maddux pitch for the Padres.

Baseball Reference is more bullish on him.

21 HR, 18 SB, .287 BA, .467 SLG, .823 OPS
If he gets the 150 hits they're projecting, he'll be up to 2,382 at the end of his age 35 season. That broken hand or whatever it was from the world games and the COVID season is going to make it more of a challenge for him to get to 3,000.

Spring training is the absolute best. Show up early and watch morning practice on the back fields, snag as many autographs and pictures as you can (women and children get precedence, so I don't bother), and just enjoy the sounds of baseball. Mrs. Marvin stays there until game time, but I move to the stadium as soon as it opens. Nothing beats getting there before the mash of kids to catch a batting practice homer... or four. I sit down once the kids show up, although some grown ass men will truck a crowd of 8-year olds for a ball. Once the game starts, I spread out a blanket on the outfield berm, soak up the sun, and doze off until I hear a loud crack of the bat. As I said, it is the absolute best. I would have season tickets to Grapefruit games if I lived close enough. I enjoy it much more than regular season games. It is the best therapy ever, lol.

Several other ballparks are close to WPB, so you'll want to check the game schedule of you desire to see several games in a row. St. Louis and Miami play close, as examples.

Then, you have day trips to Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral, and the theme parks in Orlando.

That is exactly what we did Spring Break 2019.

Added to that, flew in a puddle jumper from FLL to EYW to enjoy the day there.
