Dana sticking to the previous offer and not even negotiating.

Love it

Offer needs to go down 100k/ AAV each day.

We had a better offseason than the Blue Jays but Heyman would never say that.

I think I'm ok just standing pat.

We know Crane is willing to go over the tax for Bregman. So tell him and Boras the offer is the offer, it's there when he's ready to sign it, and sit back and relax. Let them sweat it out.

The bus leaves for West Palm with or without Bregman so it's up to him at this point.

They don't sweat in that scenario. They feel great knowing they have their ex to sleep with anytime they want while looking for something better. At some point you out a deadline on it.

If this happens then the Jays are out.

I posted this earlier, but according to sportrac, they are already at an estimated $239-244m payroll with the scherzer signing. They can't take on much now without hitting the tax

I don't think they have an issue with the tax. They were in on Ohtani & Soto.

Imagine potentially going that far into the tax only to finish in the back half of your division.

Something to remember, the current CBA ends after the 2026 season (2 years away). That is likely to be a very ugly showdown involving a work stoppage and potentially losing games in 2027 over a lot of the economic issues facing the game. Free agents this year and next might be less likely to go for the short term deals with opt outs because they won't want to be free agents possibly subjected to a new unknown system. I would hope this plays into our favor with Alex to where he would take a longer term deal rather than.a prove-it deal.

I suspect players are optimistic the luxury tax threshold gets a hefty increase. The Dodgers being willing to blow that threshold out of the water will be a leverage point as to why other clubs can't spend significantly more than they are.

Jim Bowden on Foul Territory said the Blue Jays would only be in on Pete if the price came down.

Needs to be a hard salary cap like the NFL and probably a salary floor too. Also, restrict future deferred deals.

But the players will also lowly fight those pretty hard.

MLB network the other day was saying owners are willing to wait it out up to 18 months. Not sure where that came from, but to get a salary cap it would be something on that order. Then what would be left of the game. It was terrible after the last stoppage.

Or might have a big announcement to insure it's all about Breggy

A couple of Astros pitchers and their sons made the list

Is there a tweet with just Gallo and all the other pitchers in the MLB?

MLB Network is owned by MLB, which means they carry the owners water. That was likely a direct message somebody wanted sent to the players union.

We didn't need Polanco and we don't need Bregman. I'm fine with our current roster and just rolling with new guys fighting for spots in the outfield

We have Doubon as an infield/outfield utility player. Not exciting, neither is Polanco

Lol

They bought out an 12 M extension for 750k. I guess they changed their mind.

I agree with this mostly. We need OF help. Especially lefty hitting OF help and there are some decent guys out there who can be had cheap.

I don't get why we don't sign Ben Gamel on the cheap

Gamel, Heyward, Verdugo, and even Grichuk even though he's a righty.

I'll show my age by remembering watching the Astros on HSE (channel 37 on cable). Even had Dierker in the booth before he became manager.

I remember when there wasn't any local TV for 45's games.

As someone made the point yesterday, with all the money you're not spending on Bregman you could even afford sign all 4 and then cut a few of them in Spring Training! C'mon Dana!
