Nonetheless, future cash outlays to goal value isn't the best metric, honestly.

Those teams wouldn't be in the market for Ohtani even if deferrals weren't allowed so how is that relevant?EastCoastAgNc said:The deferrals alone are greater than the total value of 7 MLB franchises. So you multiply the number next to each franchise shown by $1m. Grab a cup of coffee and try it on your iPhone.redline248 said:

They won't go bankrupt but the debt will affect the sale. Maybe instead of $6 billions, they sell for $5.5B. $1B in deferred debt to us peons sounds like a lot but it's all relative. What MLB won't like is that $5.5B number. Owners want a team to sell for as much as possible because that's a price point indicator when they sell.Jose Cruuuuuuuuuuuuz said:

Chiefs go 7th straight AFC title game (2018-2024).
3 Super Bowl wins, 1 Super Bowl loss
Similar to the Astros 2017-2023 if we had won another title
Deferred money accumulates an agreed upon interest rate that is compounded annually. Doubtful you will see this amount to be greater than the annual federal mid-term rate + 1.5% given the current CBA agrement.Jose Cruuuuuuuuuuuuz said:
I have tried to figure out the economics on this, but someone smarter needs to tell me if I am right.
By deferring their payments by 10+ years, aren't ohtani and the other players significantly devaluing how much money they make overall? Because of inflation, the power of a 2025 dollar will be much lower inv2034 and even lower in 2043.
Quote:
Monthly Federal Rates
Which AFR (Applicable Federal Rate) should you use?
- Terms of three years or less. If the term of a debt instrument is three years or less, the applicable federal rate is the federal short-term rate.
- Terms of over three years but not over nine years. If the term of a debt instrument is over three years but not over nine years, the applicable federal rate is the federal mid-term rate.
- Terms of over nine years. If the term of a debt instrument is over nine years, the applicable federal rate is the federal long-term rate.

The graph is in millions, so 7,550 million for the yankees is $7.55bn.redline248 said:

lol @ you if you think MLB would sit idly by and ALLOW the LAD to go bankrupt, even if events were to transpire to bring about such a possibility (not even remotely likely).

Opt out after 2028, but club can void 2028 opt out by picking up 2030 team option, per source.

I think Randal Grichuk is the singing. He is from Houston, would be relatively cheap. 260-275 hitter with 15-20 HRs

Exactly. Unless you believe what he did last year will carry forward, he's been closer to last year Chas and Jake for his career as a whole. Plus he's not as good defensively.EastCoastAgNc said:Mr.Bond said:A bad move would be proceeding with our current outfield as is......EastCoastAgNc said:Mr.Bond said:

While that's true, profar had one good year, and his other years are awful. If we want that kind of risk, we can get it much cheaper
For his career, Profar is closer to last year's Jake and Chas. Unless you think he's turned it around after 8 years in the league, he's more likely to be like our current outfield, just a heck of a lot more expensive.Mr.Bond said:A bad move would be proceeding with our current outfield as is......EastCoastAgNc said:Mr.Bond said:

I like Grichuk but he would be yet one more righty. This team needs a lefty badly.Johnny Foosball said:

So basically Chas?
From 4 days ago, I believe the Astros offer of 156/6 is still there and if Bregman wants to come back he can.
— Michael Schwab (@michaelschwab13) January 20, 2025
But it looks like he's wanting to be paid $30M a year, which the Astros won't match.
