I'd love if Crane did this:

I regularly tell Space City Sports on their social media channels that if they offered direct streaming, I and so many others would be happy to pay even upwards of $20 a month to get their channel directly. They could make so much more than what they get off their local sports fees to cable companies.

I worked in the RSN industry for most of my career. Streaming is still a net negative for most RSN unless it is priced significantly higher. Rangers are doing as a consequence of the Bally bankruptcy proceedings. Space City has one revenue advantage on the cable/satellite distribution side that virtually no other RSn has, though it will run its course several years down the line. Once that happens I would expect them to explore a streaming option, but for now the status quo is really more lucrative

Man - We'll wait until they're singed, but Boras seems to be really messing things up these past few years. Seems the game is starting to pass him by. I honestly didn't think Bregman would play it this badly.

The problem for the Astros and Rockets is they need the Texans to have a truly successful streaming service, which isn't going to happen.

In reality, NBA and MLB need to work together, I think, to come up with a streaming service. I think if they put those two together, there could be something viable, but it'd still be tough.

I think the problem for Boras is for lack of a better term 'moneyball'.

Nowadays teams have realized that they can fill a roster with younger cheaper talent that can produce just as well as the big name expensive guys.

Yeah the Ohtanis and Sotos and probably Tuckers will get their big pay day but teams just aren't playing the games with Boras. They'll kick the tires and show interest but when they see the price tag and compare it to the alternatives they're moving on.

If long-term is what he wants, Astros should offer him $200M/40yr. That's pretty long term.

I mean we did offer him 6 years. At age 31 that's pretty long term
I'm with you. Was just being facetious. My guess is he's had a few 6/7yr offers, but wants 8.

I'm guessing he's now starting to get 3 - 5 yr offers and has too much pride to accept 6/7yr at this point. So, let's offer him $5M for 40 years and see if that is long term enough.

Personally, I think he's going to end up with a 4/5yr deal just before the season starts.

Bregman is being a prideful idiot at this point. He's costing himself money. I know he already has $100M, but man, that $156/6yr offer the Astros made to him brings his career earnings to $256M, which I'd guess is in the top 3% of all MLB players.

We have Fubo. 100% for the Astros, but we have grown to really like their service....

More like top 0.0001% of people in the US.

I just can't fathom having a quarter billion in earning and being willing to risk that for a chance at an extra $20MM or $40MM. I get it's $40MM but I just can't wrap my head around turning down $156MM to start.

This would mean one less team going after Alex. This could not have played out any worse for him

I think the Astros moving on so quickly threw a major wrench into Boras' plans. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find out a few years down the line that Bregman really wanted to be back in Houston and was just trying to use other teams offers to get Crane to maximize his deal. Having the Astros cut bait and move on took the wind out of the sails of the Bregman sweepstakes that he and Boras had planned. After that, Bregman and more importantly Boras felt they had to find a team to offer more than the 6/156 the Astros offered just to save face, and those offers are not materializing.

In the past, Crane has tended to only go over the tax when there is the big name he wants.

If, hypothetically, the Bregman market cratered and Bregman was willing to do a pillow deal to come back to Houston for at least one more year, do you think Crane would sign off?

Fubo is merging with Disney so I'm hoping for more sports option with Hulu Live & Disney+ & ESPN+

Caught off guard or pissed because they could no longer use the Astro's very fair and competitive offer to leverage other teams and up his price.

Tough sheet

That's the whole deal. They're not upset at the speed of the pivot because he wanted to accept to it. If he wanted to be here he would've accepted it when it was offered and that wouldn't have been an issue.

They're pissed they caught with the pants down and lost leverage.

They met in the middle. For some reason I thought arbitration didn't allow that at this point.

I think they shouldn't have been surprised since you said not only did the Astros make one public offer, but came back with an improved offer.

They miscalculated with the Astros and have played everything else since then terribly. He's known Crane for years and for some reason thought he could bluff Crane or change his mind.

My opinion is he needs to sober up, face the reality of the situation, and accept the best offer from the best situation soon because I think it's going to get worse the longer he lets this draw out.

I honestly think he's getting something like 3/80-90, 4/110-120, or 5/125-150 contract at this point, which the 4 year deal being more likely.

According to 2015, the Astros made another higher offer to Bregman that hasn't been made public yet. It's actually worse than 6/156.

He's playing himself into a situation where he's going to sign a contract for less than 156M. I think it's going to be something he regrets for a long time if he doesn't go to a competitive team.

Yeah, I just think they expected the Astros to hang on to the bitter end and planned to use the Astros as the foil to get better offers out of some of the other teams. When the astros dropped out and moved on, all that leverage went away and nobody else feels like they have to field as competitive of an offer. They can take their time and kick the tires while they wait for Boras and Bregman to panic and back off of some of their demands.

I don't blame the Astros for moving on. They found a comparable 3B that may not have the leadership or intangibles Breggy has, but at the end of the day, how much is that worth?

Teams know he starts horribly slow. They also know he's had some elbow issues that I think would make some teams question putting that kind of money down.

I think he's going to have to settle for a "prove it" deal, no matter how much him and Boras want long term. My granny used to say, "want in one hand and crap in the other"…
