The issue isn't that we wouldn't want Soto... the issue is that every other team wants him, as well.

NYM, NYY, SDP, SFG, and LAD have all shown a willingness to take HUGE losses to sign a player.... multiple players.

The NYM will have $61M come off the 2024 payroll that accounts for 2 players they didn't want to pitch for them in 2024 (Scherzer and Verlander).

If Soto signs for only $50M/yr... 10 years... we might get to hear the chatter while sitting at the kid's table. $60M? $70M? Where is your ceiling on signing Soto... because it is likely going to get there... and fast.

We were able to sign Seager because the LAD thought he was too much of an injury risk. They've been dealing with that on the P front (specifically Kershaw) and had a player they thought could fill the role.

I think anyone expecting ANY splash signing is delusional. The money is uncertain, they want to get under the tax, and they believe what they have can win. Would I love to see the Soto shuffle? Absolutely. Not gonna happen. Mahle was signed knowing anything they got out of this season would be a plus. It was known he would come on late. We are at a point now that any GM needs to expect to have 8-10 starters going into spring training. Seasons like 2011 when the entire rotations stayed healthy the entire season just do not happen anymore.

and Hader might be a stud again next season. Relievers are kinda like FG kickers, sometimes they get into a funk and it just doesn't work. The FG kickers usually get cut and resurface with another team. That's not happening with Hader and all the money they owe him.

I was at DET game in DET in late July and they got one-hit by MIN. They were about the same spot as the Rangers. Barely mediocre and without hope in the world. Just tells you what is possible if you stick around and get people healthy.
