Healthy is very important but that wasn't the biggest reason for the season we had. Everyone performed well below expectations. Doesn't matter if everyone is healthy but not performing. We just need the guys on the field to play to their potential. If we are relying on health we will not win.

Now that the Astros are done, wth is going on with Baltimore? They still haven't scored yet and are facing elimination. Is Will Smith going to do this again?? I think Smith is still out injured, but just having him on the bench has to be good for something.

The Astros off-season should be fun to watch.

They have $170M (CBT) committed. MLBTR projects them with $58M in Arbs (Mainly Valdez and Tucker).

That's $228M towards a $241M CBT leaving $13M for Bregman.

The Astros have won one home playoff game in their last 8 chances. They're also the only franchise to lose all 4 home games in a series…twice. That includes losing a World Series against a wild card team and losing an ALCS to their bitter rivals from the city they loathe with all their being, who happened to be a wild card because they won the last game of the season to get home field advantage…

The reality is that the division isn't that great, so Houston will still have a chance for some more division titles, but if the Rangers or Mariners could build a decent team, it's there for them. But the M's just can't seem to do it for some reason and our Rangers seem VERY CONCERNED about the luxury tax threshold. No organization sustains winning for multiple seasons if they cannot develop starting pitching and want to focus solely on being profitable, which seems to be the Ray Davis model.

Agree with the first part. Not sure I agree with the second part. IMHO it is hard to judge financial approach the last couple of years because of the Bally fiasco. He has shown a willingness to spend in the past. He did so with JD until all of JD's moves became self defeating. He gave CY what he needed and wanted last year.

You lost me with this statement. Is Ray Davis supposed to lose money to make us happy? That's a pretty weak ass argument - and oh by the way - we signed Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Jacob deGrom to huge contracts & won a WS, so he's proven his willingness to spend money.

The inability to develop starting pitching, and I would include all-star level positions players, is an issue I agree with - although there were quite a few pitchers in the minor league system that look poised to break through, so maybe that trend is changing. But we need to retire the narrative that the Rangers don't want to spend money, because that's simply a lazy and uninformed take.

I missed the comment about Ray Davis only wanting to be profitable. Not sure which post that's from, but it's about as far from reality as it gets.

He even said in his press conference after firing JD "I hate losing" and then followed it up with the signings mentioned above. Some on here just will not acknowledge the difficulty of planning for expenditures when a major source of revenue is uncertain. Add on top that the guy that writes the checks would prefer to hit the reset button on the huge penalty tax he needs to pay (understandably so) and accusing this dude of pinching pennies absolutely does not apply.

Given the cash he dropped on Seager, Semien, and Degrom, considering Davis some sort of cheapskate is really disingenuous. In addition to the Bally's issue, don't forget that we aren't that far removed from this guy opening a brand new stadium that he couldn't sell tickets to for its inaugural season. They are also in a stage where the CBT would he extremely punitive

I think deGrom will be central to '25.

We're 2 seasons in... 9GS and 2.85 ERA for about $70M. He is set for $37M in '25 and I know he is an ultra competitor and wants do what we brought him in to do.

I think we can stay the course without a big signing (especially if we keep Eovaldi) if deGrom can stay healthy all season and be at 28 +/- GS, 5.1 IP/GS, and sub 3.00 ERA for the regular season and stay healthy for the post-season. Get him at about 150-162 IP for the regular season.

Healthy Jung, Carter, and Seager will be an exciting season.

It seems pretty clear from the articles I've read that the plan is to be under the CBT for the 2025 season. Of course, just because you start the season under the CBT doesn't stop you from saying screw it at the trade deadline and adding to the roster if you are in contention and feel like you need to add. But it's been a pretty consistent message from Evan Grant and others that the plan is to be under the CBT in 2025.

I could see us with a new First baseman, but it may not be an upgrade. Lowe is due $10M+ in arbitration, so he might end up being a causality to getting payroll under the CBT. Lowe seems to be a middle of the pack type 1B, not terrible, not great. Just depends on if CY et all think he is worth the $10M investment or not.

C - Heim: 2 more years Arb
1B - Lowe: 2 more years Arb
2B - Semien: 4 yrs ~$25M CBT
3B - Jung: Serf + 3 yrs Arb
SS - Seager: 7 yrs ~$32.5 CBT
LF - Langford: 2 Serfs + 3 Arbs
CF - Taveras: 3 yrs Arb
RF - Adolis: 2 more years Arb
Ut - Smith: 4 yrs Arb
Ut - Duran: Serf + 3 Arbs

Foscue (25), Ornelas (24), Dustin Harris (24), Sandro Fabian (26), Sam Huff (26)

We have 2 guys under contract, but control EVERYONE for 2 more years. Janko is the only guy we really lose that has been part of the past 2 seasons.

It may be time to give the fringe players a final push.
