Meh I bet just seeing if anyone picks them up for a playoff push and takes that salary off the books like the Angels did last year.

They gonna at least give 'em a ride home?

EDIT: Waived, not DFA'd. So the tema is probably fishing at the end of the month. Janko's trade value has never been higher than it is right now.

Apparently they have not been DFA'd so they are still on the 40. If claimed by a team in 48 hours they will join that team, if not they can return to the Rangers.

With 30G remaining, you're talking about 18% of the $2.9M they are owed, combined. About $500K.

We're about $13M over the CBT. If we wanted to throw in the towel to lower salary, we'd dump Heaney and Urena. Leclerc, Yates, Kelly...

I guess we'll see what happens. At this point, I don't think we'll clear the CBT. MLB indicated there'd be consideration for Bally's losses.

The Angels had to do it because they were subject to lose QO compensation for Ohtani. I believe his Comp Pick was between 1st and 2nd and would have dropped to between 4th and 5th, if they didn't lower their CBT.

The Bally lose is about $10 MM, right? So we'd have to dump about $2.5 MM more.

Maybe we have a Bobby Bonilla deal in the works for deGrom?

There are 2 paths to the playoffs for the Rangers.

Houston (+8.5)... and Minnesota (+9.5)...

Mariners... don't have to collapse, they just need to continue to drift listless.

If the Rangers can sweep the A's this weekend, it will go a long way to getting there.

Next Up:
Houston hosts KC (4G, starting tonight)
Minnesota hosts Toronto

Texas hosts Oakland

KC and Toronto still have something to play for.

The biggest factor is Houston. We need them to go on a major slump or we need to go 24-4 the rest of the way. Let's say Houston goes 11-18 the rest of the way. We would need to go 20-8 to win the division since they have the tie breaker. So we are basically hoping that Houston gets cold while we get red hot. It's mathematically possible but I'll wait to see how we do against Oakland since we got false hope the last time we played CWS. I'm bad at math so I may be off a game or two in my calculations. Fangraphs currently give us a 0.2% chance of winning the division.

We've got 28 games left to play and if we go 28-0 that's gets us to 91 Wins. Thinking we can likely afford to lose 3 or 4 more games

Considering that the longest winning streak in MLB history is 26 (1916 NY Giants) and only 7 times in history have teams won 20 or more in a row - don't get your hopes up.

So you're telling me there's a chance?

Just go 6-1, 4 straight times that's all it takes boys!!

After last series against CHW (with 3 of 4 wins by just 1 run, one in extras) -- "this is it, here's the run!".

Lose 16 out of the next 21.

Another series against CHW (with 2 of 3 wins by just 1 run, one needing a Top 10 play)....

Losing 2 of 3 in the final series against Houston was the death knell. Playing for next year.

This offense has had virtually no games this season where they bludgeoned people. The 8th and 9th inning guys have done a great job, but they're missing those half dozen games where they scored 10+ runs. Negative run differential because of it.

I cant even figure out how to fix the O in 25 unless half the team has another career yr.
Jung…. can he finally play 150 games?
Seager will Seager
Semien… .240 this yr, plYs @ 34 yrs next yr.. 26 mil…
Lowe. is he ok at 1st? Replacement probably gonna cost more
Adolis…. cheap enough. Santander available…. probably be 40 for 3yrs, he's 29
Leody….. Im at a loss here…. hopefully Carter can fix this
Langford ….. the talent seems there…
Heim hopefully an able bodied backup saves some wear and tear

The TV/money issues seem to limit major moves on offensive side unless a big payroll move is made on pitching side.

Adolis is 31 and will turn 32 during the first week of next season. I think he's back next year and will DH a lot if Carter is healthy. Either way, next year is likely his last in Arlington.

Heim needs a capable backup. Signing Knizner after Heim's injury was roster malpractice.

I would like to see an upgrade to Lowe. I like him a lot and he's a great locker room guy, but this offense needs a lot more offensive production from this position.

Seager, Semien, Jung, Langford are in the 2025 lineup. Add Carter when he's healthy. Heim as well. DH, 1B and backup C is where decisions need to be made.

Edit: You're talking about Santander being 29. I read that wrong. Whoops!

I don't think they have the payroll to add much of a bat. They are counting on a combo of health and guys who had down years rebounding, both of which are feasible because the lineup was littered with both issues this season

As much as I hate to say it, I don't think we just need a capable backup to Heim. We need someone who is starting-level that will push him a la Garver. Last year was Jonah's only above average year at the dish and he is about to be on the wrong side of 30. He should be on a short leash next year.

I actually don't think we need to move on from Lowe. He may not be a masher but he's a really solid hitter and now a high level defender. He is one of the only players that hasn't dramatically underperformed this year. It certainly would be nice to have some more pop at that position but I don't think it's that big of a deal, especially when you have Seager and Semien giving you more than normal power in the middle infield. There's nothing wrong iwth having a JT Snow type at 1B.

There isn't a single outfielder that hasn't been disappointing this year, I think that is where we should make a big move. I bet the FO is kicking themselves for not cashing in on Taveras when his value was at his highest.

I'm going to toss this out there, admitting in front that it's probably totally unrealistic - but here goes.

If I'm the Rangers, I have to recognize that Seager isn't a SS long term. I'd consider moving him to either 3rd (and move Jung to 1st) or to 1st base leaving Jung where he is, and letting Smith be your everyday SS until such time as one of the minor league SS's are ready (Walcott perhaps?). Lowe at that point becomes a trade piece for a bat or more pitching.

In my mind that would solidify not only the infield defense, but would be pretty solid offensively. Regardless, I'm with the other posters that while Lowe is a great guy, he just doesn't provide enough offense at the position.

Just for clarity, Heim is 29 and won't be 30 until late June of next season. Don't disagree with the last part, but I would point out that IF Heim gets his defense turned around, you can live with a lesser bat at the catcher position. But he has to be better behind the plate than he has been this season.

Is the main gripe with Lowe his lack of power? He seems to always be included in hypothetical trade talks yet he's 3rd on the team in OPS and has a near identical average as Jung. He's not a superstar but statistically he's been one of the better offensive players this year. Also who can we afford that has better numbers?
Flounder Dorfman
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I think Lowe gets thrown around as a replacement option because some kind of change has to be made and he is set to make somewhere in the $11-15MM range next year, if I'm not mistaken. You can get to Lowe through process of elimination.

Seager, Semien, Langford, Jung, Carter are going nowhere. Garcia very likely is not because he has one year left. Taveras might go but if that's if you feel good about Carter, but that's a push. You're simply replacing a guy with another guy that you counted on being in the lineup this year.

And when I say backup catcher, I really mean someone like Garver. A DH/C type player.
Flounder Dorfman

I am all for moving Seager to third or first. It will happen at some point anyway.

Smith has had a great year, but I just don't see him as an every day SS. Of course I didn't see this offense being absolute dog **** this year either, so my opinion doesn't carry much weight.

Not really....but part of my hypothetical would have to include talking Seager into making the move, and I wonder if 3rd would be an easier sell than 1st.

FWIW there were concerns about Jung's arm strength at 3rd when he first came up, and I think he's been great there. My preference would be Seager to 1st, but I'm obviously not "in the know" and may be completely full of it.
