Can't guarantee a top five pick by tanking anymore right?

I think you bring up completely valid points, but when you consider that we would be fourth at best in the AL East and AL Central right now, it doesn't leave me feeling great. We are going to have to win our division this year, and as currently constructed I think the Mariners are a better team than us and the Astros are back.
No panic. A division title is easily within reach. Trading anyone young right now, or anytime during this season, is ludicrous. Don't give up on anyone.DallasAg 94 said:
Sounds like full panic on a .500 team in May.
Dunning should be back this week.
Oh it's been ugly for sure. He's not going to cost us a playoff spot by throwing him out there any 5th day. Let him hang around our hall of fame cast of injured starters and pick their brain. With those guys + Maddux we have the best collection of pitching coaches in the league.Tksymm7 said:
I don't think Leiter is ready to be honest. I thought he might be turning a corner, and he might be, but he still hasn't pitched a ton since his stint on the development list.
What flaws exist compared to last year?Tksymm7 said:
I just think there are flaws with this team that aren't simply going to be fixed with getting healthy. Yes, getting some pitching back will no doubt help, although we aren't going to see Scherzer until mid-July, Mahle until the end of July or early August, and deGrom until later than that. And even though I think Jung helps as well, is he really going to be worth as many wins as we are essentially putting on him? I won't touch on Langford and Carter again, they are rookies.

We don't have a DH, we don't hit well with RISP, we don't hit the ball all that hard, we have two rookies in the lineup, one of whom has been one of the worst hitters on this team so far this year and with a major flaw in his bat, and a number of guys reverting back to their career norms (or worse).
Wait.....some here are talking about giving up on the season? Now?? 1.5 games back in late May with tons of injuries and some are actually giving up? That's incredibly LAME!DannyDuberstein said:
Seager, Semien, Eovaldi, etc only have so much prime left. You do not throw away a season of that prime when you are 1.5 out of first and have a ton of guys that will return. That is absolute crazy talk

On a side note, when we play the Astros again, we need to go after their best hitters hands as much as possible. They did this on purpose ( jung) and we need to retaliate. You will never convince me otherwise.
No. Not at all. Would not take that bet...........MrCoachEricTaylor said:
Anyone taking bets on if we get no hit against Philly?
And here come the Phillies with the best record in MLB. 8-2 over the last 10Quote:
Would be so nice if we ran into a team that was on a cold spell or really struggling, we haven't had that amount of luck with the schedule just yet.
I know. My only rationale is at least we aren't playing them in the second half when we will be hoping to go on a run. Hopefully wash and the angels can play well down in Houston and buy us another day or 2.agent-maroon said:And here come the Phillies with the best record in MLB. 8-2 over the last 10Quote:

Wendzel going back down. He really stunk up the joint.Quote:
The Texas Rangers have optioned infielder Davis Wendzel to AAA Round Rock, the team announced today. The team said that a corresponding move will be made before tomorrow's game in Philadelphia against the Phillies.
Wendzel was added to the active roster early in the season due to injuries to Josh Jung and Justin Foscue. The hope was that he would be able to provide a righthanded bat who could play any of the infield positions against lefties, as needed, as well as provide value off the bench.
Unfortunately, Wendzel has not hit well since coming up. He started on an 0 for 11 stretch, got a hit in his only plate appearance against Seattle on April 25, homered in his only plate appearance against Cincinnati on April 27, and since has been hitless in 16 at bats. He returns to Round Rock with a .069/.069/.172 slash line in 29 plate appearances, with no walks and four Ks.
So a 25 yr old guy who is a career .275 in the minors, and who BTW was hitting a robust .231 at AAA this season is somehow supposed to make a big difference when even Carter and Langford have struggled against MLB pitching?Quote:
I still think the Foscue injury hurt us more than most people realize.
Not saying he's great, but he's probably 10x better than wendzel and would have at least worked some walks.rbtexan said:So a 25 yr old guy who is a career .275 in the minors, and who BTW was hitting a robust .231 at AAA this season is somehow supposed to make a big difference when even Carter and Langford have struggled against MLB pitching?Quote:

SMH. Foscue isn't the answer, not even close. He's at BEST what we're seeing from Carter this season offensively, and a complete liability defensively.
I honestly don't understand the infatuation with Foscue. He was picked way too high and we seem committed to trying to will him into being something he isn't.

There is definitely a degree of luck involved with this game. A lot depends on when you play a team. If you run into a team while they're hot, watch out.
For example….. let's look at a really stinky team. Colorado is 15-31, but on may 9th they beat the giants 9-1. Why is this significant? It started a 7 game winning streak where they posted 2 separate 3 game sweeps back to back. The Rockies were playing like a first place team for a week and everyone in their path suffered for it.
