To sum up the game, we get doubled up on a non-infield fly call and then the As get a bloop double to CF in the 9th inning.

Mason Miller is an amazing young pitcher. Hit 104. Changes speeds. Hits spots. Crazy tough.

Really really pathetic showing from the offense today

Brutal - series in Houston is going to feature two teams who are going to pretend the last three days didn't happen.

We have not hit our stride yet. Not even close. Sputtering so far. Offense gets going and we'll be alright.

ETA: I blame this on Grapesoda talking about a sweep going into the series.

They should save the giveaways for the exits after a game like this.

Want a replica trophy? "Luck into" witnessing getting 1 hit by the A's. Should probably throw in a bobblehead too.

On radio they said it wasn't enough of a routine play to call infield fly. Whatever.

It was an in field fly and it should have been a play for the pitcher with reasonable effort but he just stood there.

I don't understand the delay in calling the infield fly. Seems like every game I played in, coached my boys in and now watching them in high school was an immediate call by the ump once it was obvious it was landing in the infield. What exactly was he waiting on to call it?

Regardless, that was a bad offensive performance. Really good pitching on both sides though. Latz might be a dude.
Mr Gigem

It has to be a routine play with ordinary effort. The 2B charging in to make the play was not that, despite the umpire starting to signal it before waiving off. Definitely frustrating from a runners perspective. Literally nothing you can do there, which is exactly the point of the infield fly, to protect the runners

Exactly right.

What I don't get is how an umpire can't decide if a fly ball is routine when it almost hits the dirt of the pitcher's mound.

I would like to think that would have affected the game, but from what I saw today I would expect the third out to come on a strikeout anyway.

It's amazing that the A's screwing up the play gave them a benefit. The first baseman could have made that catch easy but got called off by the spaz coming in from second. It should have been a routine play with ordinary effort.

For one of the teams, they'll leave the next series feeling goo about the direction they're headed. The other? Not so much!

Fri 7:10; Dunning v France 4.76 ERA in 2 GS
Sat 3:05; Heaney v Blanco (FS1) 0.00 ERA in 2GS. He has 2 of the 4Ws
Sun 1:10; Eovaldi v Javier 1.10 ERA in 2 GS. He has 1 of the 4 Ws

If we can sweep the Astros, it could be pretty motivating. Day starts, as well.

Then, they host Atlanta for 3 where they go a ?, Brown, and France.

We need Dunning and Evo to win their games. I don't give us much of a chance beating Blanco.

Can we stop talking about sweeps until we actually do it? "Oh, we need to go into Houston and get a sweep. I think we can do it." That is so unrealistic, especially with our anemic offense right now. Try to win the series. That's good enough right now.

We should have swept the A's.

Yeah I'm not sure how anyone can hope for a sweep ahead of any MLB series. These guys were all the absolute, hands down best player on every team they played on as a kid. The teams that win their divisions will all lose 40% of their games.

Just win series. Do that a lot and you're in the playoffs.

Losing the series to Oakland was unacceptable. Who knows what will happen in Houston?

Today was my first Ranger game in person since 2019, and wow, after all the excitement of finally going back, what a dud of a game that was.

On top of the offensive no-show, the only real interestinting baseball moment was wiped out by the fluky infield fly no call (which I think was correct)

Overall, just a really frustrating day. At least the drive back to Collin County was suprisingly quick.

Losing 16 of 20 last season was unacceptable. Will Smith and Chapman blowing nearly every save chance they had the 2nd half of the season was unacceptable.

But it all worked out. Lots of baseball left. This won't be our last awful series.

100%. Baseball goes in waves and as long as you get into the tournament healthy, who knows what can happen?!?

We still gained on the Astros who got swept in KC. It's frustrating that we lost 2 out of 3 tho.

We got 1 hit by both Blanco and Sears. 2 journeyman pitchers over a 7 day span. Pretty sad. The offense is in bad shape. We need Lowe and Jung back badly. Bochy is tinkering around with the lineup too much and the buttons he's pressing aren't working.

Lack of ordinary effort should not cover players who are 10 feet away and just stand there. It was an ordinary play that the pitcher decided not to make. So their lack of effort gets called extraordinary effort?!
