Astros have zero opinion with the Mets. Thus as I said im talking specifics and the yankess/astros might even fall out of the range. All pro sports for the most part I dont believe this applies.

I have zero issue with her being a rangers fan and covering the Astros.

My issue is that she has trashed our organization and Altuve, then plays the victim after.

Correct. If she just came out and said "Yeah, that was a mistake and I should have been smart about what I posted online. I let my emotions get the best of me. I'll do better moving forward and can't wait to get to know this team and city", I would have let it go and given her a shot.

It still would have been incredibly stupid, but I could appreciate her owning it. The victim card tells me all I need to know.

Would anyone have a different reaction to her if instead she came out and said...

What I said 2 months ago was opinion as a fan and I stand by that take. However, know that it will not impeded my judgement as a journalist and I'll handle this new position as an unbiased professional.

I would

ill be hjonest that list i posted above, before this year I wouldnt have even put Astros/Rangers on it. Because who cares and they barely had fans. but now the bandwagon grew. she ran her mouth and it is biting her in the butt.

Heres the craziest part, if that post was from 2 months ago....she was probably actively interviewing for the position. Hiring in corporate america is not a quick process. How stupid do you have to be to post that while interviewing in Houston

Yup. It's really extremely easy. Just don't double down and play the victim.

"Yes, I'm a Rangers fan. But as a sports fan, I'm beyond excited to get to know more about this great city and this team! I'll use this as a learning experience and be better in the future." would have been just fine.

She would have to make a public and personal apology to Altuve IMO on top of that statement.

Nope. You trash Jose as a cheater (and stand by it when called out), you are dead to me. She's got to go.

The best case scenario IMO… we knock the Rangers out of the playoffs in 2024 and she has to write a pro-Astros article on it and how Altuve was the hero once again.

If you think Altuve is a cheater in 2023 then you fall under 1 of 2 categories:

1. Low Information Casual
2. Hater who refuses to accept reality.

I know things are slow around here, but I am so happy something like this will be our lineup for the majority of the season.

Altuve
Alvarez
Bregman
Tucker
McCormick
Abreu
Diaz
Pena
Meyers

I'd go

Altuve
Tucker
Bregman
Alvarez
Diaz
Abreu
McCormick
Pena
Meyers/Dubon

Nope. She needs to say she understands that the team may not welcome her into her clubhouse based on her earlier statements. She needs to say she will be speaking privately to Jose and other team members to make sure they are willing to accept her in the clubhouse and if they can't she will willingly resign her position.

She crossed a line as a journalist. If in fact that's what she thinks she is.

If she wants to come out and say "I'm not a journalist I'm an op-ed social media click generating person covering sports" then she should say that. And take her lumps as they fall. Including being shunned by the team her employer is paying her to write op Ed social media pieces about.

She can't have it both ways.

Lots of ways to slice it. I think as long as the following happens, the lineup is somewhat optimized.

Top 4 must include Altuve, Bregman, Tucker, & Alvarez
Diaz and McCormick cannot be lower than 7
Pena & Doobie/Meyers are in the last 2 spots.

I cannot believe Jake Myers is still on this baseball team
agproducer
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Altuve
Bregs
Yordan
Abreu
Tuck
Diaz
Chas
Pena
Meyers

I think Abreu is going to bounce back. That back issue really hampered him last year. When he got right, he got right.

Realistically, what value in return would you want?

He is fast. Defensively he gets good jumps on balls and covers a ton of ground. However he has no arm at all. Teams know that and take advantage of that at will. He sometimes makes poor decisions on where to throw the ball. That can be coached but let's be honest, at this age if you don't know that it's a minus.

His speed doesn't seem to translate on the bases and he is a below average hitter so far is what I would say is limited opportunities.

He's a 4th OFer.

I don't know. I've just been told repeatedly since last year his days in Houston were numbered. And he's still sticking around.

I'd be okay with this. My only question mark would be to possibly flip Yordan and Bregs, for the simple fact that Alex works counts and gets on base. But I'd be happy with either.

2021-2023 Astros Basebaserunning - Runner Runs
1. Pena - 4
2. Tucker - 3
3. Dubon - 2
4. Meyers - 2

Fielding - Fielding Run Value

2021 Astros
5. Meyers +4 (only 334 innings)

2022 Astros
4. Meyers +5 (only 403 innings)

2023 Astros
1. Meyers +7 (807 innings)

In 3 seasons, he's -2 runs due to arm and +19 due to range. Jake's 21 OAA from 2021 to 2023 is 12th in baseball yet he's only played 1544 innings. For comparison #1 Michael A Taylor (32 OAA) had 1047 attempts. Jake had 479 attempts. Check my math, mathguy, but that's a better rate than the best CF in baseball.

If the rest of our lineup hits, there is no reason why we couldn't use Jake a ton in CF. If TED pulls his head out of his ass, a defensive OF of McCormick, Meyters, and Tucker would be elite defensively.

Jake made big strides in striking out less and walking more in 2023. If he can continue that and match it up with some of his 2021 batted ball profile and we have ourselves a damn good player. Click believed it was in there. I am choosing to believe it too.

Okay one more and let's move on... but my god. Sweat SECOND on her Heisman ballot? Yeah, she's a Texas grad too. She's clearly not good at not being a massive homer.

I just don't buy those defensive metrics. I'm not a computer algorithm but I have eyes.

His arm is way below average. I mean it's Biggio bad. It's so bad that runners on 1st tag and advance on him on routine flies to CF. You never see that. The number of times he's thrown to the wrong base is enough to know he does it.

His jump and speed to the gap is top notch. He's so fast he's actually overrun balls in the gap.

I just don't see how that completely negated the extra bases he gave up from his arm and decision making.

grew up a fan is different than a known online presence supporting a team. And tu has nothing to do with the Astros

Jake is ranked 110 of 152 OFers in arm strength for 2023. There were 42 guys worse including McCormick & Julks. Believe it or not, if we look at the single hardest throw only, Jake is ranked 30th. Higher than Mookie, Sri, Springer, Judge, Gallo, Bader, etc. That seems like a bit of a fluke.

If you look at how baserunning/are value stat and not pure MPH, he's ranked 85 of 121. Ahead of Chas, Julio, Cedric Mullins, Sringer, Arozarena. They have video of every single time he got the ball with runners on, when the advances, held, etc.

Is he good? No, but I think it paints a much better picture than what you have from your watching experience.

That's wild. I would have thought he had the worst arm and decision making from the outfield.

I saw a headline earlier about a Bregman contract like Ohtani…why couldn't we do that for both he and Jose? Pay them normal pay now and then defer money after which they would assume a position similar to Biggio as an Astros ambassador

I had actually wondered about this for Jose especially before the Ohtani contract even came up. Basically convince him to take low now to keep the window open and retire as an Astro and guarantee he will make more later staying employed by the organization

I think a part we might not be considering also is if he can cover more ground (running faster) and get to more balls than say Chaz. That is going to lead to a tougher end of the play in order to stop and make a strong throw.

Chron hired the chick that tried to joke with Kelly about winning? Lmao. What a dummy.

It's remarkable how brainwashed people are about Altuve, but a lot of folks probably think it's too late to change their stance now. Might as well own being a tool I guess.

Ms. Vann should have known better than to poke the bear that is Astros fans on Twitter. The victim BS is just pathetic.

I paint by numbers and try to stay inside the lines.

I thing statcast is taking one of those girls nights out where you paint a picture while drinking wine. And it's swapped wine for barrel proof Wild Turkey and they are swigs from the bottle.

so did you sell out you aggie character and cover the sips?
are you really Ketch after all?
It's not about selling out. It's about business.

I worked in San Antonio for a few years while the Spurs were winning their championships. I helped cover their championship runs and parades -- yet I was a huge Rockets fan.

You put your fandom on the backburner if someone is going to pay you to do the job.
I get what you are saying...I just disagree. There is no one in new york media that is directly covering the yankees who are major fans of other teams. Sure a news anchor might not really matter but the sports reporter or beat reporter should not be dire rivals with that team and the person who hires people shouldnt hire someone in that position.

So what he was saying about them being hesitant to even interview him but allowed it because he had nothing showing they shouldnt...if it came down to 4 people for the position and one is an aggie and the other three consist of 2 texas grads and a uconn grad...the aggie should absolutely not be hired.
Yeah, trust me, you're wrong on this one. I came across plenty of folks who went to school A who covered rival school B for a living.. and did it very well too. It happens way more often than people think.
2015 is completely right on this. I worked with a Baylor Bear who covered the Ags and did it well. He's now working at t.u. in their sports dept.

It's business. You get paid to do the job and be objective.

If you can't separate that, you shouldn't be doing it.

And, this reporter, she should have known better.

Tjack learned about it with his misstep. She should have learned about it after her LSU incident.

Agree across the board on this. I actually worked in sports television production in NY for 16 years. If your were great at your job on either side of the camera you would get your shot there. Now were there a lot of New Yorkers that covered their teams? Absolutely. But there were also many people from all over covering the local teams. There is still a large contingent of Aggies in sports television at senior levels all over the country in part because of the birth of regional sports networks in the 80's in Houston, FYI.

Why would either want to do that?

Ohtani makes over $30mm in endorsements a year.

Its just not a realistic comparison.
