As a journalist -- you must be super careful with what you post on your social media channels.

You should not air out your personal opinions when you are a reporter -- regardless if it's your personal account or not. It calls everything you write into question.

This reporter needs some coaching on social media use.

When I worked in media, I had to undergo background checks and social media checks. I don't know what the policy is at the Chron, but background check was likely part of it. In this day and age, social check was probably also part of it. They may have noticed it, asked her about it and were satisfied with her response.

There is a real shortage of good, quality writers for real journalism. It's now all infotainment and who can get the most engagements.

Good or bad, this will get the Chron engagements and clicks. But I digress....

I'm not sure what's worse. Her blatant homerism before or her blatant crawfishing now trying to save her ass.

Whatever the answer is it's hilarious. I feel for her having to learn this lesson that being a public figure taking stances has consequences.

Well, no I don't. She needs to learn this lesson. She's not a reporter, she's a social media wh*re. I use that word because it's the only word I know. She sold herself for clicks. If you say something controversial because you believe it you need to be big enough to stand behind your words. If you say something controversial because you want clicks on your social media and it later bites you in your ass because you have no convictions, well that's on you.

Isn't being careless the same as not caring? I'm not defending her by any stretch. Not sure how I came across as that. I've heard a lot of really bad things about her as a professional.

This. I interviewed with a place in Austin that covered Texas. Do I love the Longhorns? No. But it's business.

They originally didn't want to interview me because I went to A&M. Luckily I had connections who went to bat and the reason they gave me an interview was.. guess what.. they looked at my Twitter and didn't see me ragging on t.u. like they had expected.

It says a lot about someone in this business if they're really that dumb about what they post.

Haha. Never got the job but who wants to live in Austin anyway?

Ended up moving to South Carolina where I worked at a Fox Sports affiliate for a while until COVID happened and I got laid off. Decided that was my sign to move on and find a job that actually pays decently.

It's a brutal industry. I don't miss it at all, but I did get to experience a lot of really cool things.

I'm not saying you're defending her - never got that from your post. I was just adding on and offering my view on the situation.

When I think of careless, I think of someone who has good intentions but makes an honest mistake. When I think of someone who doesn't care, I think of someone who knows exactly what they are doing and does it anyway. I think there is a difference in being careless and not caring.

In the first interaction I saw of her last night, the original post she responded to in Oct'23 was something along the lines of appreciating Altuve's greatness. She responded with "no." Someone else responded with something along the lines of is that really the stance you want to take or something along those lines. Then she responded with the I don't recognize cheaters or however she worded. All of that's ok…if you don't cover sports.

She knew what she was doing. She knew she made that post. She knows she covers sports and got hired to help cover the Astros. She didn't delete the post. If she didn't remember making that post, she at the very least, knows she doesn't really care for the Astros, Altuve, and I'm guessing Bregman, didn't even care to go back TWO months to see if she had an disparaging comments agains the team she's going to cover.

Again, this is just sports, so, in the grand scheme, it's not a big deal. It definitely shouldn't get personal with her.

I'm not going to let one incident color her entire person, but she definitely didn't care enough in this situation.

And honestly as a sports fan working in sports.. it was cool seeing different atmospheres and venues even if I wasn't a fan of that specific team.

I got to meet people from rival teams who I learned to absolutely love as human beings. Mack Brown and Mike Leach were extremely kind. Jeff Bannister was a lot of fun to talk to and very nice in our interactions.

I was fortunate enough to get to know Joe West and he was one of the most personable, generous people I ever came across in the business.

I get what you are saying...I just disagree. There is no one in new york media that is directly covering the yankees who are major fans of other teams. Sure a news anchor might not really matter but the sports reporter or beat reporter should not be dire rivals with that team and the person who hires people shouldnt hire someone in that position.

So what he was saying about them being hesitant to even interview him but allowed it because he had nothing showing they shouldnt...if it came down to 4 people for the position and one is an aggie and the other three consist of 2 texas grads and a uconn grad...the aggie should absolutely not be hired.

Yeah, trust me, you're wrong on this one. I came across plenty of folks who went to school A who covered rival school B for a living.. and did it very well too. It happens way more often than people think.

I was an Aggie Athletics intern on campus from 2014-2017. I'm a 3rd generation Aggie so of course my fandom bled into the "professionalism" all the time. Got to work sidelines for football, baseball and basketball.

But man I got lit into by a higher up one time because I posted on Twitter after the 2016 Texas Bowl loss. Now granted I was a senior so another 8-5 was frustrating. But I basically posted a tweet about how we let another 5-0 or 6-0 start turn into 8-5 and "when is enough enough". It was my personal account but it got 350 retweets so the office lit into me pretty good and that was my "one warning" about social media.

So you're talking specifically about the YES Network? Or media in general? Either way- it wouldn't surprise me. Professionals are professionals and are able to do a very good job regardless of who they cover. Most times you would never know who they're a fan of because they keep that stuff off their Twitter account.

2015 is completely right on this. I worked with a Baylor Bear who covered the Ags and did it well. He's now working at t.u. in their sports dept.

It's business. You get paid to do the job and be objective.

If you can't separate that, you shouldn't be doing it.

And, this reporter, she should have known better.

Tjack learned about it with his misstep. She should have learned about it after her LSU incident.

No im saying specifics. TexAgs doesnt hire longhorn grads. ORangeblooods doesnt hire aggies. Yes network or CBS newyork isnt hiring a red sox sports reporter,

Im not talking about an anchor in new york covering the news, or a reporter for fox or espn etc.

Also, a good follow is RoFlo.

The dude is an Astros fan, Rockets fan, Texans and UH fan. He posts positives about them. He also posts positives about other teams.

Hannah Storm is another. She loves her H-Town teams -- but she's fair to everyone else.

I mean, the Mets do exist. Our own radio guy is a New Yorker and Mets fan. There are only 30 spots if you want to call pro ball. Obviously there are more spots for other media and beat writers, etc, but the point is it's not some industry with thousands of jobs. The number of opportunities is pretty small in comparison to many other typical industries.

And thus where Im saying specific rivals. No offense but no one cares about Baylor, no one cares about tech, no one cares about UH, SMU etc etc etc. But its not the same for: A&M/texas, OU/texas, Bama/Auburn, USC/UCLS, Mich/MSU, Yankees/Sox, Astros/Ynkees, Astros/Rangers

Why wouldn't they? You hire the best candidate for the job.

TexAgs and Orangebloods are more fan service than they are media.

Unless it's changed since 2020, that certainly wasn't the case when I was in the business as I saw grads of rival schools cover teams quite often. I knew a big South Carolina fan (and grad) who covered Clemson and did a fantastic job. These places don't care what team you root for when you're watching the game at home. They care about if you can do a good job.
