I was a huge Chandler hater, but his work the last year away from Chron has been good.

He's probably still a whiny *****, but I don't get that from his articles.

The problem I have with my folks that call out Altuve as being a cheater, is they are just parroting the popular hot take.

It was proven with data (where it could be pulled into the equation) that he used the least amount of trash can bangs, and I believe was vocal against using it.

Jomboy ended up taking it further with the buzzer theory because of the 2019 walk off.

It's just pathetic that Altuve's character has been questioned so many times, when he is such a good guy/teammate and just continues to have to wear the villain cape.

So a fan of a rival team is hired by the chron, our hometown paper to cover our hometown team. What kind of hire is that?

Haven't read or even looked at anything the chronicle puts out for years. 2nd rate paper.

Maybe she can ask Jose his feelings on how bad the internet can be.

She's right...The internet can be ruthless but it works both ways and I'm glad she's getting a dose of her own medicine. She needs to realize that words even when typed on a keyboard have consequences.

I think it's a great opportunity to do her first story about her mistake, what she's learned form it, shed light on what great player and even better person Jose is, and touch on what kinda hate he gets day in and day out during the season.


There's a path to redemption here but it won't be easy and I imagine Astros twitter is gonna be ruthless on her for a while and deservedly so.

Play stupid games and win stupid prizes. When I was in the business, I was really careful not to **** on any team on my twitter account. The only thing you get out of it is burned bridges... and in a business where it's extremely difficult to find jobs, you can't afford to burn any bridge.

This alone says she's not that smart. To try and take shots at a coach you're covering to gain clout for yourself is very narcissistic. This is the kind of toxic individual that players and anyone associated with the team will want nothing to do with.

Guess what- life craps on us all. I hope it's better for her, but don't play the sympathy card to cover up poor judgment and stupidity.

Yeah, normally I would feel bad and say give her a chance.. but this is simply the consequences of being careless online. And from what I've heard this isn't the first time she's run into trouble with this kind of stuff.

I do think some of the attacks from people are going way too far. There's no need to get personal. But I wouldn't blame anyone at all for voicing their displeasure to the Chron.

My thought as well - stop trying to play the "life has been tough lately" card when something goes wrong. Suck it up and admit you've made a mistake.

The problem I have is her comments an Altuve are TWO months ago. It's one thing if they were two years ago, but she recently said that stuff while working in a space where a job she might end up having to daily interact with the Astros was possible.

I don't necessarily want her fired, but I wouldn't feel all that bad if she did as a result of her comments. At the very minimum, she owes several people an apology.

My question is the chron really not vet her? If they did, did they just not care about this?

As Beat said, this was 2 months ago. And it's seemingly well known to not be true. So it was just typical blinded, hot take bull*****

With all that, I don't think she would report on the Astros in an unbiased manner. But....even if she can....she'll never be given the benefit of the doubt. Any negative article or tweet, even if justified and correct, will be met with well she's just a hater with these screenshots.

She should just take the L and resign. She will always be viewed as a moron by this fanbase and they will never forget her calling Altuve a cheater. It is one thing to pile on the 2017 Astros were cheater bandwagon but to call out Jose specifically makes me think she isn't very smart or capable.

I'm really not sure how she recovers from this. You can't hate on arguably the most beloved player and definitely the most accomplished player in franchise history and then expect the fan base to accept you. I'll be shocked if she's still around for opening day.

It's a tough lesson to learn, but as a journalist, you have to be more aware of your social media presence. You never know where your career might take you.

The hiring manager could also lose their job for this. When you're hiring for such a public position, a social media check should be done.

The Chron is an absolute abomination of a 'newspaper'.

The fact they didn't vet this chick is not surprising in the least.

I don't think it's careless. She messed up with Brian Kelly, and clearly didn't learn from it.

It's not that she's careless, it's that she actually doesn't care. She thinks everyone should immediately move past it, or at the very least, offer her some grace since she's going though so much tough stuff in life.

Imagine getting a job for a paper in the 4th largest city in the world, to primarily cover the Astros as well as other sports culture. Two months prior you're trashing arguably that franchises greatest and most beloved player despite evidence that has come out to the contrary while working in that space. You got that job and didn't even delete the tweet!!

Then, your response when called out by it, is to essentially blame everyone for not giving grace because of all the personal "tough stuff" going in your life without apologizing.

She's not careless, she's a narcissist.

Also, I agree with you that people take stuff way too far. It's just sports at the end of the day and she doesn't deserve for things to get taken personal. The displeasure should be voiced to The Chronicle.

Back in the day when we had the Post and the Chronicle we had great fricking sports writers and sports pages. I took both papers just for the sports. Not sure I've read the Chronicle in over 10 years.

It's less about the paper and more about the online presence. The writers, especially for sports, can have a large online presence. They can post their articles on social media, and people will click the link that takes them to the Chronicles website, where they generate revenue from the ads.

The Chronicle really F'd up with this chick. Not a lot of people from Houston will click on her articles based on what she's said and the way she has responded.
