I get the feeling the Rangers are going to spend spend spend this offseason. They are going to try and be the Yankees and just throw money at everyone. Not to the Mets level but they are going to ignore the CBT implications.

Ken Rosenthal on his Foul Territory podcast says he thinks Crane is making the call, not Brown. Says Espada is the obvious candidate, but Crane may want a bigger candidate. Mentions Ausmus and mentions Ausmus failing twice.

I get this as well. Espada is the obvious candidate and you have him in the bag. I think Ausmus is a joke and nothing more than a made up hit by those that don't like Bagwell (right or wrong). Why wouldn't Crane explore bigger splash names if he knows he has Espada in the bag?

Didn't Baltimore go on a huge spending spree 10-15 years ago? And got nothing out of it. And look at the Angels for the past 2 decades. Spending massive amounts on every "hot" FA every year leads to nothing, more times than it leads to championships IMO.

36% of the time being a final 4 team over 36 years. Seems pretty impressive to me (even if I strongly disliked them and their payroll).

It just depends on how the org is run. It is very clear. Crane is running the show. He's probably one of the most involved owners in baseball. If it ends up being someone other than Espada, it's not a great look for Brown. Its probably also the end of Espada's time here.

I am all for interviewing the top candidates and doing due diligence. If there is someone clearly better than Joe then go get him. I don't love the idea of hiring a "name" for the sake of hiring a "name".

They suck and screwed up with the Judge contract. That's why I said one of if not the best team before the Astros run (last 7 years).

Counsell is the better candidate

This seems really quick to be making a decision. Has anyone even interviewed and offered him?

All I recall seeing is that certain teams are interested and he's a candidate at various places.
