We are who we are. Maybe there is a September call-up rookie who will surprise us in the bullpen.

Bochy has done an incredible job of getting us to this point. It's time for him to figure out how to fix this with dunning, Stratton, Owen white, I really don't care.

Gotta remember that Chris Young will hopefully learn from this. You cannot be a contender with a spare bullpen. Watched teams of late win WS titles because of their bullpens. Royals in 2015 come to mind. And the Astros have another title in 2019 if their bullpen was better than it was that season.

Young has done an amazing job building this team. He couldn't fix it in 2 years, but he might be able to do it in 3. I wrote the franchise off as a loser last year, but he signed Bochy and Maddux and our team changed overnight.

Everybody needs bullpen help. It's very hard to find because these don't get paid much and are mostly inconsistent. It's not something you can lock in for years.

Chapman is so full of himself. There's a reason nobody likes this guy on any team he's been on. His attitude a few nights ago was childish and ridiculous.

102 doesn't mean **** if you can't throw a ****ing strike. He wasn't worth the AAA clubhouse washing machine. ****ing bum

When a bad bullpen all year is gassed they turn horrendous. Said it the other day. Just don't see how they can have any sustained success right now.

Absolutely brutal stretch these past few weeks. Team has felt completely different since losing the potential sweep game to an extra inning walkoff in SF on that Sunday day game. Was down all game, then able to tie to extend then steal the lead late that day, only to lose on a walkoff HR. Maybe that game was a sign of things to come.

And as much as Heim has struggled, he has come within an eyelash of winning 3 games since his return...and we've lost all of them. Huge hit tonight, huge hit against Minnesota, and missed by an inch in the finale against LAAA.

That AA staff the Mets rolled out there threw 206 pitches, gave up 11 hits, hit a batter, threw away a pickoff, and walked 6. We should have put 15 runs on the board, but instead we watched multiple fastballs in counts where the pitcher had no choice but to throw it. Tonight was the equivalent of A&M losing to PVAMU.

I think what we are watching is a team that simply isn't ready. Obviously the bullpen isn't ready, but the lineup isn't either. Outside of Seager and Semien we don't have anyone else who's truly played in this many high stakes games across a season or in the playoffs. We don't have experience like the Astros or even the Mariners (who did it last year), and that matters in playoff races or chasing a World Series.

How many *********double plays did we hit into? Holy ****.

This team has choked more than any other team I've seen. This is ridiculous.

Agree completely. Many of these guys have never played a game in a pennant race before (Lowe, Taveras, Duran, Heim, Garcia, and others). It just shows right now. They're tight, the veterans are tight, the manager and coaches are tight, and the bullpen just sucks. Houston and Seattle have guys who know this time of the year very well. We don't, especially as Rangers. Those teams know how to win close games. We don't. It's a lot better than last year, thank God, but it's far from good.

And we are cursed, so there's that, too.

This is all correct, but how does FO improve for '24… entire infield is returning… along with in theory… RF, and CF…. is the FO counting on experience turning things around….. or is '24 doomed to failure by pressure???? Who really knows, im assuming BP will undergo an almost complete rebuild…. but the position players seem locked in for 24

Our starting pitching is elite, but we constantly come up with ways to poop our pants and fumble the game away anyway.

Remember, in 2016, after two seasons of learning this stuff, the Astros went out and signed a lot of veterans to bring in that experience and leadership to their clubhouse…and once that happened, they learned to listen to trash cans and they haven't looked back.

It's what I'm hoping for here. We could use a veteran LF and a veteran at catcher/DH. We need completely to overhaul that bullpen, obviously. But it's not far away at all. The best part of this is that we are competitive finally with the best teams in the AL. And we have a lot of players in the farm system to use as bait, since the infield is set. I would say that I could see the front office dealing Nate Lowe or Leody Tavares or Zeke Duran for the right pieces. These guys are good, no doubt, but if they can bring you championship pieces back (I.e., bullpen guys and more power), I'd expect that to be done.

Still trying to process what exactly the hell that was we all saw last night.

I mean how often do you see the same team in the same game suffer 2 back breaking home to first double plays to blow golden opportunity rallies?

Just for good measure we also crapped our pants in a 6th inning bases loaded situation where we only got 1 run after the pitcher walked 3 guys in a row after the first hitter singled.

Im not sure the other 29 teams in MLB could lose a game last night in the manner this team did.

These guys are better at choking than a hooker who works at a brothel in Nevada. The whole baseball world is going to know they're choking losers too if they don't figure out a way to get into the post season after leading the division for about 75% of the season.

Well, you'll have Taveras and Jung who have gone through a complete season at the MLB level and playing meaningful games in September.

Lowe, Heim, and Garcia are playing meaningful games in September.

More than likely they all get Playoff games this year.

I'm still in on this year, but I think this season of experience will be just enough for the next couple years.

Smith, Chapman, and Stratton are all FAs after the season.

It really is all about the BP.

Personally I think the Rangers ought to try to trade Adolis in the offseason. He'll be 31 next season and we should get something for him while he's under control and would have some trade value. The most Rangers thing to do would be to hold on to him until he's too old for anyone to be willing to give much for. Carter might possibly be ready by next season at some point, especially if he plays winter ball or in the AFL, and Tavares could play RF if the Rangers don't sign or trade for another OF.

Not a big fan of trading for bullpen pitchers unless it's someone elite, who likely wouldn't be available anyway. If you trade for a bullpen arm, you wouldn't want to give up much in the way of a prospect (Ragans for Chapman, ugh).

Those of you clamoring for Carter this season - someone mentioned bringing him up like they did Jung last season late. As a reminder, when Jung came up last season (NOT in a pennant race, but in a 94 loss season), he hit just .204 and struck out 40% of the time, while not having to deal with the pressure of trying to win the division. Highly unlikely that a rookie OF is going to come up late in the season and be the bat you'd want him to be. I hope they let him finish out the season in AAA and give him a shot to make the team next spring.

They weren't frozen, that was just the order yesterday.

We have priority over them on waiver claims today. The one question I haven't seen answer, is how it works if one team wants to claim multiple guys. Do they get all of them, or do they have to pick one if they "win" multiple claims.

Not sure on that piece, mlb.com says one team can basically claim everyone in theory so guess you can "win" multiple claims?

I see conflicting info on the order based on a 2 min google search so maybe it wasn't frozen, but I think the reason yesterday's list matters is it's based on when the player was placed on waivers (most were yesterday) so that's the list that applies. Let's see if MLB can make it even more confusing next season

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/qa-what-the-heck-did-the-angels-and-some-other-teams-just-do/

Quote:

Q: Can a team claim multiple players?

Yes! A team can submit claims for any and all players on waivers, but there's no turning back. If, for example, the Yankees want to claim everyone on waivers to block the Red Sox from claiming anyone, that's their prerogative. However, unlike under prior CBAs, waivers are not revocable on either side of the transaction. In this scenario, the Yankees would then be on the hook for all of the money owed to all the players, and they would have to make room on their 40-man roster accordingly. Teams are forbidden from making claims for the express purpose of blocking other teams from making a claim, so the Yankees could not immediately designate a claimed player for assignment to keep them from the Red Sox with no intent to roster him themselves.

mlbtraderumors put out the new order today.

From what I saw, all the players are being "published" on the waivers list today (last day for postseason eligibility), and so it's the end of day Wednesday that takes priority.

But yeah, if this August salary dump thing is going to be the norm, they need to rethink exactly how it works.

Oh gosh, he ducked on the throw home. That makes it so much worse. I assumed it was on the relay.

You could be 5 feet inside the foul line and you can't get called out for interference on the throw home. Pansy just didn't want to get pegged.

That's so bad. Runner's lane doesn't even apply on a throw home, only from home to first. Pretty much anything outside of intentionally swatting the ball away there is legal.
