Something to keep an eye on regarding Heaney. Heaney is at 100 innings pitched. If he gets to 150 then his option becomes $20 million. I'd bet he's moved to the bullpen or shipped back to NY in this trade.

I've seen several people on Twitter saying Acuña is the centerpiece of the deal.

Luisangel Acuna, a SS and Ronald’s brother, will go to Mets in proposed Max Scherzer deal — if it is finalized. They are still working through things (there is no official word from Scherzer yet) so it us not final yet.

If the Mets eat part of his salary, which is probably what is being negotiated, I think that impacts the payroll implications of the luxury tax. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Depends on how it is structured, I suppose.

My guess is, since the NYM are already over, any money they send our way would need to be 2023 money (to cover his cost to the Rangers). Rangers are close, but haven't exceeded.

According to COTS we have about $7.3M Scherzer is still owed about $15M, if I saw that correctly. The next piece might be to get a little more to make room to add others.

Let's say above is correct at the floor is $15M and covers Scherzer. We'd still have our $7.3M.

Somewhere I read (and posted here) that SDP needs to get under their Luxury Tax (Tier3?) or the QO for Snell and Hader drop in value from between CB2 and 3rd to after 4th. Their 1st pick would also drop 10 slots.

So, if we can pickup all of the Snell $5.5M remaining... or whatever SDP needs, we could pick some of that up to add value to a trade with them, if it is still on the table.

Acuña being apart of it is not surprising. I like him a lot but you have to send something to gain something, and he was likely always going to be apart of any trade we made at this deadline because Carter was/is off limits.

Would Scherzer be a rental or would we get him for next season too?

Acuna was blocked. If / when Seager moves off shortstop, Duran could probably take it over.

If the trade is official and he's no longer with us, I hope the guy doesn't end up being as good or better than his brother. I also hope we don't have to give up much besides acuna.

Foscue was #1 on my "rangers to be traded" list so I'm assuming we're not finished.

He's been playing CF lately as well. He can play all over. I think he can absolutely be a future star.

I know we have a lot of middle infield guys but Acuna and Walcott were my two to keep.

Not directed at you at all, but I would bet good money he's not going to be close to his brother. Ronald might be the second best player in the MLB and is on a HOF track. Many experts thought he was a HOF level talent when he came up, and there aren't many of those.

Acuña is 5'8", and that has always worried me. Some scouts don't know what level of pro he's going to be because of that.

Some suggested his assurance to not opt-out would yield a higher return for NYM.
