I don't think the Anderson-Chapman-Sborz-Smith idea is tinkering, I think that is what you've got by adding Chapman.
Anderson was the only questionable part of that. Sborz couldn't hit the zone and had a bad outing.

I'm not making excuses for Bochy. I'm just getting familiar with him and don't have a strong opinion one way or the other.
It's tinkering because you're "shortening a game" that you have no need to shorten.
In 15 outings Heaney has thrown 95 innings or more 7 times, with a handful of 92/93's in there.
Had he run into real trouble in the 5th then the move would have been less questionable. But 2K's and a weak single was not trouble.
To bring in Grant Anderson to face 2/3/4 was just trying to get cute. Hell, even Chapman in that spot would have made more sense. Grant Anderson wasn't even a dominant minor league arm. He's a SSS guy that you don't overexpose.
Just a real dumb move by Bochy.
