I know that story was already posted. Been quiet quitting this season, or retiring to avoid a firing?

Go lay a deuce in the middle of the office. One for each of the championships we have and they don't.

I keep wanting to make posts but I just cant. The season was just a running disappointment that finished the same way. I don't recall there ever being a more mediocre season. e would go down then come back then repeat. We never went on any extended runs or anything special.

There is no good time to lose so this was as good as any. I might even have preferred it (aside from the opponent) as opposed to going to the WS and getting beat by a lesser than Diamondbacks or a dominant retribution act by Philly.

I have lots of Ranger fans so im happy for them and their experience but not their team.

Wish we could keep Maldy in the org, maybe as a catching/pitching coach in the minors?

Thanks for the good times Dusty... now bounce

Priority #1... have the team relax, then hire a Manager, and a studd hitting coach, get the team healthy...

WS Champs in 2024
that's the crazy thing about the people praising our downfall right now. obviously the playoff are always crazy, but we should be a 100 win team next season.
As much as it drives people crazy it means we've made it to the top of the mountain. We're this generation's Yankees. Might as well embrace it.

I personally can't wait to see what the ratings are if it's a Rangers / Snakes world series.

It was a good run. Next year will be better if Dusty rides off into the sunset, Maldy moves to the staff, and we remember that redheads in whatever capacity have the ability to effect games and bring us all together. I will be pulling for the NL team this year in the WS. See you next year!

Hot damn, you went out on top

A little self deprecation. This would have been a tougher year than the last few to gamble on.

After sleeping on it, I'm surprisingly at peace. Extremely frustrated.. but at peace.

Things are damn good when falling a game short of the World Series feels like a catastrophic failure.

We're not far from winning another championship. A couple good offseason moves, a new manager and some better fortune next season and we're right there once again.

It's extremely difficult to win a World Series. We've had such a great run of not only excellent teams, but also great luck as well. I hate to say it, but we were sort of due for a season like this. And we still got so damn close.

I know it doesn't make it better but I think it's important to keep things in perspective.

This thread is so fun and I love interacting with you guys throughout the season. As far as the off-season goes... here's what I've been told as of a week or so ago. Again, this is just what I'm told.

  • Josh Hader will be the number one target in free agency
  • If we miss on Hader, we're still willing to spend big to beef up the bullpen
  • They want to add a veteran innings eater to the rotation. We've seen how important that type of guy is.
  • The managerial search will begin right away. No known frontrunners but Joe Espada and Alex Cintron will likely be in the running. Dana Brown will have a list of his own guys as well which has been speculated to include Walt Weiss.
  • The Astros have discussed a role on the staff with Maldonado. I previously said it's been offered to him, but I've heard two different things (one said it's been offered and the other said it's being discussed) so I don't want to be definitive here. I'm not sure what position- but he's very analytically advanced and it wouldn't surprise me if it's some sort of hybrid role where he works behind the scenes and also with the pitchers and catchers on a day-to-day basis.
  • Expect a couple additions to the front office- primarily in the scouting/R&D departments.

Obviously things can change but that's where things seem to be right now.
Great post.

We've been a final 4 team, 7 years straight.
We've been a final 2 team, 4 years out of 7.
We've been World Champs 2 out of the last 7.

You ask any of us growing up in the 80s and 90s if we ever thought that would happen to the Stros and we'd be lying if we said yes.

And next year has the potential to be another good run.

Definitely the most frustrating full season during this entire run. I'm happy to turn the page to the next one. Should be a formidable rotation and an automatically improved lineup and in-game strategy.

I like what Maldy brings and hope he's still around the team. But there is a chance it might stunt Diaz's growth too. If Maldy is still on the roster, the pitchers are going to want their guy as soon as something doesn't go right with Diaz. Internally, Diaz most likely going to defer to Maldonado behind the scenes in meetings and scouting. We need to be able to let Diaz fail and learn lessons too. It wouldn't hurt to add a veteran catching that brings a different perspective as well. Someone like Hedges would be super cheap because he's a zero on offense, but is elite at framing and blocking.
Agree. IMO this is the best case for letting Maldy walk if he does want to come back (as a player). Maldy is pretty clearly the alpha of our game-prep/strategy/whatever behind the scenes. And it might be tough to lose that if he decides he wants to play (elsewhere) in 2024. But if we want Diaz to take the next step in his development, gotta take away the Maldy security blanket.
Best case for me is Maldy cuts his teeth somewhere else for a year or two and then comes back. Diaz gets a little room to spread his wings and diversity of mentorship before Maldy comes back. It provides the best of both world.

I hate that the season is over, and I hate that it's over at the hands of the betaboys. But, I did not enjoy much of this season. It was just a frustrating grind and I'm spent.

Also, I think McCullers can be a locker room voice if he gets and stays healthy. I like his energy.

A question- how long do you think it would take for Framber to recover from a brain transplant? Maybe he just needs to be locked in a kiln for three months.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

I think the biggest detriment to this team this year was the WBC, Tuve got hurt there, our pitchers across the board pitched alot there. Coming off a WS run last year then asking so many of those guys to ramp up just a couple of months later really was taxing on them. Let Framber, Javier, Brown, have a good offseason of rest and reset. Hopefully Garcia can be back by the All Star break next year and fingers crossed that Lance can show up late season and spark us.

Framber isn't the only one in that boat. Tucker is right there with him bailing water.

Tucker needs to understand that as a hitter you are going to fail and that it's ok. He needs to disconnect yesterday's ABs from today. And disconnect his last AB from his play in the field. And vice versa. He puts immense pressure on himself to succeed and he lets failure eat him alive.

Yep - definitely hoping Philly wins today and then beats the Rangers down. I think they are plenty capable of beating them. I'm not so sure about the Diamondbacks, but I will pull for them if they advance instead of Philly. The actions of Garcia alone have made the rangers a team I can't stand.

I started to think both teams' pitchers were using pitchcoms malfunctions as an excuse to get free timeouts. It seemed too obvious to me last night, easy to get away with.

If you woulda told me the Astros would make the ALCS when LMJ was shut down, followed by losing Garcia & then Urquidy thru the ASB, combined with Dusty's daily game of lineup musical chairs, I probably woulda taken it.

It's the soy boys from dfw who have followed baseball for all of two weeks that are bothersome. I get being gracious in defeat, and there is a handful of arlington fans I'm happy for, but I'll be pulling for NL rep in the WS.

This thread has been awesome all year. I've enjoyed the celebrations, meltdowns & disappointments with y'all. The Astros' window is still open. Let's get back to the WS next year!

This is shaping up to be one of the best rivalries in baseball. The new money Yankees and Sox.

Hope we SPEND this offseason. Squeeze every drop out of the window.

Rebuilding can be done hella fast once it closes now that it's such a sellers market at the deadline

Tucker hit .220 since he missed the Mariners games with an illness.

and Altuve hurt for the start of the season, Yordan hurt for part of the season, and Uncle Mike hurt almost the entire season.

It's a miracle we won the division. This is a high 90's win team that limped all year. I fully expect to win 95+ games next season.

Any rumbling on guys who may be on the trade block? I'm really hoping they address the offense in a big way this off-season too. Not getting offensive help at the deadline really hurt.

Also, do you have any read on what they'll do with the altuve and bregman contracts?
