Forgive me if it was already brought up, but has anyone looked to see if it's true that there's never been a WS rematch in back-to-back years?

Schwarber is up to 20 career postseason homers? Did teams forget that he likes to strike out?

A fourth of those he has hit in this NLCS.
Which is insane. WS Springer level

There have been numerous back to back rematches in World Series history. with most being Effin' Dodgers vs Damn Yankees.

1907-08 - Chicago vs Detroit (Cubs won both)
1921-23 - NY Giants vs Damn Yankees (Giants won 2 of 3)
1930-31 - Philadelphia A's vs St. Louis Cardinals (Split)
1936-37 - NY Giants vs Damn Yankees (NYY won both)
1942-43 - Damn Yankees vs St. Louis Cardinals (Split)
1952-53 - Effin' Dodgers vs Damn Yankees (NYY won both)
1955-56 - Effin' Dodgers vs Damn Yankees (Split)
1957-58 - Milwaukee Braves vs Damn Yankees (Split)
1977-78 - Effin' Dodgers vs Damn Yankees (NYY won both)

I think I didn't miss any.

It seemed like there were 2 or 3 yrs in a row when I was a kid that the doyers and the jankees played in the WS.

Has to wait until 7pm tomorrow so the 48 hour clock let's him play 6/7 if needed

So if Abreu is suspended do we get to add a pitcher? If so I wonder if Graveman is ready,

If (big IF) he's suspended then no he can't be replaced.

Yeah I unlazied myself and looked it up. It would be the first repeat WS "in nearly half a century."

The buddy who shared this tidbit with me, saying "First ever," was even more lubricated than I was post-game, but sober me tonight was thinking there was no way the Dodgers and Yanks didn't have rematches.

how can he appeal at 7pm when the game starts at 7pm? So he will appeal right as the game starts and then will be able to play? TIA

Per the CBA, postseason suspension appeals must be heard within 48 hours,

I think he is saying wait as long as possible to appeal so you are able to play in game 6 and 7 with 48 hour ruling in effect.

When he appeals that starts the 48 hr clock, whose to say mlb doesnt already have their ruling ready? They dont have to wait the full 48 do they?

They have to actually hear his appeal before they can rule. It isn't as simple as he says "I appeal" and they say "Denied". He gets to plead his case why he thinks the suspension is unwarranted. Would be a shame if there was no easy time to schedule them to hear it until after game 7 (if necessary).

I don't believe they have to wait. It's just that waiting as long as possible gives you best chance for a ruling to come in after game 7. Just some gamesmanship basically. I am sure their response is ready to go right now.

I seem to remember that appeals used to be heard the next time your team was in or near New York City.

There was a time when the appeal had to be heard in NYC at MLB Headquarters. So yes the next time you were in NYC was a common time.

Not sure if the 48 hour rule for the post season means they will do appeals via teleconference, but it would certainly be a considerable imposition to make him travel to NY and back between games 6 & 7.

What would be the wildest stat is if it's Astros vs DBacks because of this wild coincidence

2022: Astros and Phillies finish regular season off playing each other and then face in World Series

2023: Astros and DBacks finish regular season off playing against each other..
jkag89

That would be fun but Arlington is far more likely to prevent an Astros/Phillies rematch than the Snakes taking two in Philly.

Great news!

Since the Yankees missed the ALCS we won't be playing against them until 2024

No reason to be in NY

98 Randy Johnson coming out of the pen tomorrow
Big Puma was a wrecking machine in the playoffs, he'd be a good addition. Beltran was unreal with 8 HRs in 8 games in his rental year with us, and he was a better CF than we have now. Prime Bagwell (pre-shoulder injuries) would be insane at MMP.

For pitching, I'd want 98 Randy Johnson. A powerful lefty with disgusting breaking balls would be huge addition for us. Coming out of the pen for 1 or 2 innings would get you full nasty, instead of having to pact for 120 pitches

Sorry Pena, but I'm still going Correa.

He's a big time gamer and pretty much carried Minn into the playoffs. You add his bat back to our lineup right now I feel that puts us over the top.

I'd add Wagner. If you haven't realized it by now, a stellar BP can win you the WS.

it's been a rough postseason for Pena so far

7 for 33 at the plate

and only 1 run scored in 35 plate appearances

only 1 RBI

he might get pinch hit for again

For this series, your answer has to be your favorite choice from a string of Ryan, Richard, Johnson, Cole, etc.

The Rangers are struggling against high heat. Replace Framber (who even when at his best doesn't pitch to that profile) with an elite fireballer in Game 6 and advance. Then enjoy having that guy along with JV, Javier, and Framber in the WS.

Problem with Nolan is he tended to be a bit wild. Now imagine the chaos that would ensue if he plunked someone after yesterday's game.

You know as I watch Altuve's HR for the millionth time, my heart really goes out to Bagwell and Biggio and I wonder what they make of all this.

For context, more than a decade ago, I worked for a Tennis website, and one time I got to interview David Ferrer, who was a Spanish player - now retired - who was constantly in the top 10 in the world, made a **** ton of money, won 20+ titles, but never a Grand Slam. Because inevitably he would ultimately run into Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic in a tournament and get beat.
So we were talking in Houston at this tournament and I just asked him out of the blue if it was frustrating to play with those guys winning so much. I thought he was going to tell me to **** off, but instead he said something to the tune of it being incredibly frustrating because he'd been the best at every level growing up and as a young player and he was one of the best now, but he couldn't break through no matter how much he trained or tried or practiced.

I wonder if that's how Bidge and Bags feel watching the likes of Altuve. They are both HOFers, they own a ton of our team's record books, everyone knows their names, their jerseys are retired, but neither one of them ever did anything remotely on the level that Altuve does ROUTINELY in the post-season. I'm sure they are happy for him and would say all the right things if asked, but it's a curious subject for me - the difference between the elite and that inner circle of greatness that keeps coming up huge over and over when the spotlight is on.

Some guys are built for pressure and big games and some guys aren't. Bagwell was my hero growing up. Biggio a close second. That will never change but those guys just didn't have it. It's that simple. When they finally broke through, they got swept in 4 games and honestly; they were washed up… Bagwell couldn't even throw a ball.

Those guys kept a generation of Astros fans engaged and passionate. Their place in Astros history shouldn't be dismissed. I bet it's tough but those guys love this franchise. They are happy.
