Which ***** ass player hid behind anonymity? I guess he's afraid mean old Maldy might target him next.
From The Athletic:
"Another Rangers player, granted anonymity in exchange for his candor, essentially accused Maldonado of masterminding the whole thing.

"One of the best relievers in baseball just suddenly lost command?" the player asked, referring to Abreu. "Maldonado's smart. They got exactly what they wanted, Adolis riled up. Crazy coincidence, isn't it?"

Maldonado is certainly smart. He also can be an irritant. And evidently, he is inside the Rangers' heads."

Maldonado is a clever player, but the mythology surrounding him is fantastic, and it's kind of self fulfilling. The more people believe these things, the more they come true.

The mythology continues to grow the more he massively over performs in the playoffs and is constantly involved in crazy scenarios through no fault of his own. Everyone knows his analytics are among the best in the league so there is already a mystic surrounding his brain wherein everyone thinks he knows just how to get into other player's heads.

He's reaching stratospheric levels now since hitters go straight for him instead of the pitcher who hit the batter.

He will carry this over when he becomes a coach. The guy is going to be able to coach in this sport the rest of his life if he wants.

Maldy as Forrest Gump who just inexplicably finds himself in the middle of everything. Love it.

OMG. I'm gonna have a field day with photoshop later if I can find the time.

Does anyone video of the entire scuffle because live I could've sworn Garcia gave that umpire a shove and after that the ump backed off and that's when Yordan was there.

If he didn't shove him then he came awfully close.

He shoved the first ump and had hands on another.

I think it's crazy we're all acting like there aren't unwritten rules about etiquette, and that it's preposterous that we plugged him intentially.

Sure. But anyone with a better than average baseball IQ understands it makes no sense in that moment. He's going to have at bats in game 6 to send that message when a pivotal swing game isn't on the line and defensively you aren't stressed in a late inning.

That's what's great about the Rangers crying like little *****es. They have to argue an illogical excuse for blowing the game when reality is they couldn't handle the moment and choked when it mattered. And whether it was intentional or not is irrelevant outside of a losers mentality.

None of it makes any sense. Even if it was intentional, how does giving them 2 guys on base with 0 outs help us, exactly?

If they had any sense at all, they would have taken the base and tried to make us pay for giving them a base runner. That's what well run teams would do. They only have themselves to blame for being emotional morons with no sense of the moment and turning a positive into a negative in the biggest game they've played in a decade. Choke on it.

A Ranger player speaking anonymously to the press is so on point for that group. Bunch of betas.

Careful. One will be along shortly to tell us that Astros fans make things up.

So for me this reminds me of Yordan's walk off against Seattle last year in the ALDS with how it sparked the post season run and really got the Astros going through the DS and CS and eventually the WS. Altuve's HR may have the same impact. Like Maldy said the brawl woke up the Astros, and Altuve's HR to take game 5 may give them the swagger they need to dominate game 6 and hopefully the World Series.
No matter what!

So I missed this. A dude that hasn't pitched since June (for the Brewers) was ejected in the 8th inning flare up? Who the hell is Matt Bush and what did he do?

I'm pretty sure this is the guy who ran over an elderly man and drove away and left him to die (this after getting kicked out of a Gentlemans club for being too drunk) .

But he did it "the right way" - the Rangers way. So, there is no asterisk.

Zero chance we hit him intentionally IMO. Brush back, sure. Not hit him to put 2 on with no outs, down by 2 in a pivotal game 5.

Now, spring training or next season is a different story. Would not be surprised if we hit him again.

Yeah I've watched the Altuve and Abreu homers from the last 2 nights about 15 times each.

Man it feels good to not be a Ranger

Garcia didn't do anything wrong pimping that home run. It was a huge moment for him.

I agree. I'm not against pimping it. I'm just pointing out how ironic it is that the actual "game winner" was like an average day at the office for Altuve

Anyone with that level of baseball IQ knows its a momentum game and things like this and your manager getting thrown out for some ****in reason since the dawn of time gets teams fired up. These things unite and energize a team. You stick up for your guy, you back him and you go to war, and the bats come alive.

You think 80 year old Baker was really losing his mind out there after they threw the pitcher out? He just couldn't believe it... lol. It's not even surprising, but it works and always has.

Making that kind of childish, me first decision is the exact reason the Rangers will be watching the next round from home. Giving up game 5 to send a message and hopefully "get the team fired up" by putting your backs against a wall isn't it.

Yeah, he has every right to do whatever he wants, but he's getting hit. He's lucky it wasn't in the earhole. 15-20 years ago he would have been on the deck for that.

So I've been thinking about this a lot recently. Imagine how easy it would have been for the front office to fold once the cheating scandal came out. I think half the owners in baseball would have used that as an excuse to rebuild.

Also how many recent teams have one their big title and then scrapped it all a couple of years later?

2015 Royals
2016 Cubs
2018 Red Sox (kind of)
2019 Nationals

4 of the 5 champions during that run haven't come close to the title after that. The difference? 2017 Astros have been to three WS since that title and trying to make a 4th.

The 2016 cubs and 2017 Astros were so similar. Young, amazing core mixed with just enough veterans. The cubs got their title, and by 2020 their core was split and haven't touched the playoffs in 3+ seasons.

? It's not giving up the game, dude... And it's not "selfish" ... that's how the game is played. It's how it's always been played. He was EXPECTED to hit that guy. It's especially how this team plays. We're scrappy and have been for the past 7 years.

We had Pressly coming in who we have full confidence in to close out a game. The whole situation sparked our team and we came out hitting.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Putting yourself in a deeper hole already down 2 runs with only 3 outs left "because" is just dumb in my opinion. And most others.

I don't think getting hit was intentional.

And the vast majority of people aren't saying it was wrong for him to pimp it like he did. But, it shows his emotion. Generally people that emotional for good situations are just as emotional in bad situations. And that's what turned the game around.

It's not coincidental tuve almost took one to the head a couple days ago and just brushed it off. You really think Garcia would have? Answer seems kind of obvious.

One knows how to handle the situation, the other doesn't. Take your base, don't pour gas on that situation, and give any chance for a spark to your opponent that's down, who knows what happens.

I'm not trying ot be offensive, but I most others didn't play ball at any kind of competitive level.

Strategy is one thing, but you have to have a presence out there and you have to seize the momentum. That was a "No one ****s on us" moment, and I promise you the whole team was behind it. It's a "I don't give a **** how big this lead is, we're winning..."

I loved it. That's the stuff in baseball I love the most. It's also the worst when you're ont he losing end and you see it happening and you feel powerless to stop the momentum.

Correct. And Abreu didn't do anything wrong firing one into his ribs, even if it was intentional. You pimp a big home run like that against any other team in the majors and you are going to get plunked in your next at bat 99% of the time. Garcia should have said a few words to Maldy if he didn't like it and then taken his base.

Correa is probably the best example in recent memory of someone with high positive emotion/swag without being a mental midget under pressure.

I am convinced that is the reason for San Diego's underwhelming performance. They are a team of Garcias - lots of talent, very little emotional IQ.
