Buuut

Verlander
Valdez
Javier
France
Urquidy
Brown
McCullers
Arrighetti

That is some depth.

Where's Luis?
An omission that I would never think Farmer would make.

I just don't think we see much of Garcia next year. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
Yeah, now that I think about it you are probably right. Even if things go well, most likely won't see him with the big club until the last third of of the season.

I'm convinced the juju of the Astros got all messed up because whatever power hungry powers-that-be decided we no longer rally the team with tasteful, classy TOFA, AOFA and YPOFA

Free the boobs!!!

I think 11 is probably the absolutely earliest for any big league pitcher, but 15-16 months aint uncommon either. JV had his surgery in Sept and wasn't able/willing to come back for the WS in late Oct/Nov.

He had surgery May 19th.

12 months - May
13 months - June
14 months - July
15 months - Aug
16 months - Sept

On the home/away subject, it is kinda interesting how concentrated our run production is to the HR at MMP. This data is mostly off memory, so it could be slightly off here and there. I'm also not sure how closely it aligns with our regular season run production mix, but my sense is that it's a materially higher %.

We've scored 12 runs at home in the playoffs so far this year. Of those 12 runs, 9 were via the HR (7 via Yordan HRs... five solos and a two run).

Last year against the Phillies, we did the vast majority of our damage at home via the HR in games 1, 2 and 6 (except for a first inning outburst in g2). In g1 ALCS against the Yankees , we scored most of our runs on Chas, Yuli and Pena solo dingers. Bregman's 3 run HR was our offense in g2. We didn't do a ton against the Mariners at home outside the long ball either.

I know there's similar examples from 2019 and 2021, granted not sure they're as extreme.

Not 100% sure the point of this post, other than to observe that we hardly ever score runs at home in October via "stringing hits together" and wonder aloud if our dependence on the long ball at home explains the cold stretches we tend to go on when opposing pitchers are better and the game is much more hyper focused on matchups.

I'd be interested to see the Rangers avg EV vs the Astros avg EV this series so far.

Here's what it looked like in Games 1 & 2 Avg EV in mph:

Houston
Game 1
Montgomery - 91
Sborz - 88.1
Chapman - 83.2
Leclerc - 76.6

Game 2
Eovaldi - 94
Sborz - 97.7
Chapman - 100.8
Leclerc - 82.5

Texas
Game 1
JV- 85.3
Neris- 81.9
Abreu- 91.6

Game 2
Framber- 89.4
Montero- 88.2
France- 91.8
Maton - 51.4
Abreu- 71.9
Pressly- 91

It looks like we are hitting the Rangers and hitting them better than they are hitting us, we just aren't getting the hits to drop. I think we will start to see things change in Arlington.

Regarding Framber yesterday -- his Whiff % was at his career average around 26%. His sinker was a problem. Hard hit % on his sinker was about 50% all year. Also, the Rangers were looking for the pitch and connecting. He threw 20 sinkers yesterday, got 12 swings on the pitch. The Rangers made contact on 11 of those swings -- the 4 they didn't foul off went for singles. His sinker also isn't sinking like it used to, but its moving more horizonally -- looking like a 2-seam FB.

Honestly - just watch how pitchers are pitching him. He get so many pitches away, especially low and away because he can't lay off. It feels like he rarely gets pitched inside anymore, or at least inside to the point a mistake ends up over the plate and he can crush it.

He gets so little pitches to drive. Tons of stuff that moves and away from him. That pitch in the 9th was left up and a fastball, and he almost drove it out.

He has to do extensive pitch recognition work on the low and away slider in the offseason, because I've seen pitchers almost get a free strike throwing a fastball in the same location.

If you look at the way the Rangers pitch him yesterday, he only had 3 or 4 pitches inside or even in the middle of the plate. Everything else was on the outer third or away.

He's got to drive the ball opposite field to get pitchers to change their approach. And he's got to do it with power. Until he can hit a few oppo HRs / double / triples, he's not going to see a lot he can pull to drive.

All these hang the banner jokes might come back to bite us if they end up hanging a legit banner in 2 weeks. I'd prefer to make jokes after we win the series

Yep they're two wins away from an AL Pennant. That is a significant achievement in my book If I were a Ranger fan I'd be damned stoked about that catch also. I certainly don't recall any of us waiting for the Astros to actually win the World Series to be excited about this catch.

Not the same scenario. Making jokes about a great catch by an opponent is not the same as being excited about a catch our player made…

Do they still get 7 runs or is it effectively 0 if they forfeit?

My point was the whole hang a banner post about Ranger fans being legitimately excited and even labeling the play is pretty dumb considering Arlington is two wins away from being able to hang a significant banner.

Anyways maybe they'll move on from this catch, which while amazingly athletic just kept the game from being a complete rout.

Angry maybe isn't the word. He attacks the ball. Literally attacks it.

Even if they do, they'll still be the second team in Texas to make a World Series and the second one to win one (and only one). Which is cute.

I think it's Philly all the way this postseason. They just remind me of the 2023 LSU title team with the way they play and hit.

Yup. We've lapped them badly. They'd have to go back to back to even get a little close.

It really helps when the opposing pitchers leave meatball after meatball over the plate.

Credit to them for punishing the hell out of the Braves and DBacks so far but damn can the Astros get some of these 90 mph middle middle pitches please

True. Still a place I want to visit at least once for the US history aspect.
