Saturday, I'd say 50/50

But if they don't open the roof Sunday night… I'll lose faith in humanity

I can't remember the last time the roof was open for a day game.I've only been once when that was the case and it had to of been early 2000's.

No chance for Saturday, maybe Sunday.

They probably should with the recent struggles at home. Change something up.

Why no chance on Saturday? High of 73 with no precipitation in the forecast.

So help me, if the Bagwell Buddy connection leads to this guy being the next manager...this man is the Adam Gase of baseball

My thinking is the sunshine. The Astros NEVER play at MMP in that kind of sun so I think they would keep it closed.

Although that could be good to change it up, I just don't think they will.

Not worried about this

A) The Bagwell influence was far less than what this thread thinks
B) He doesn't seem like the type Dana would want. This will be a Dana hire and he's way smarter than that

I certainly hope that ends up being the case.

I don't get it. This isn't hiring Maldy to be the skipper next year. Some of you invent reasons to he upset.

A) This is spot on. Both on here and Twitter.
B) Yeah, I haven't heard anything that would indicate any interest. The only names I've heard are Walt Weiss, Eric Young Sr, Joe Espada and Alex Cintron and that was just speculation from one of my sources close to the team. We won't hear anything leaking out until after Dusty is gone.

It is a safe assumption that this would be Dana's hire to make?

I'm never not going to pissed off at Walt Weiss. That was my last game ever in the Dome and basically my final memory.

Twins vs Astros

Batting

Vs RHP (wRC+)
HOU - 107
MIN - 111

Vs LHP
HOU - 122
MIN - 100

High Leverage
HOU - 105
MIN - 101

RISP
HOU - 124
MIN - 123

2nd Half
HOU - 127
MIN - 124

Very similar. They have the edge vs righties and we have it vs lefties. The problem is both teams mostly throw righties.

Pitching

vs RHH (ERA / xFIP)
HOU - 4.00 / 4.12
MIN - 4.06 / 3.79

vs LHH
HOU - 3.87 / 4.53
MIN - 3.64 / 4.13

High Leverage
HOU - 7.92 / 3.86
MIN - 8.96 / 4.24

RISP
HOU - 10.22 / 4.28
MIN - 1037 / 4.32

2nd Half
HOU - 4.29 / 4.37
MIN - 4.11 / 3.73

as SP
HOU - 4.17 / 4.39
MIN - 3.69 / 3.73

as RP
HOU - 3.56 / 3.79
MIN - 3.95 / 3.85

Again, very similar. I like our BP better, but their SP has been better throughout the season. Its hard to take Ryan (guessing), Lopez, Gray over Verlander, Valdez, & Javier but overall they have been better.

A few thoughts
  • Game 1 win is a must. At home, big pitching upper hand. We cannot afford to get down, lose home field, and lose the pitching advantage. We gotta jump Joe Ryan or whoever starts.
  • I think we win this series by beating the bridge to Duran. Guys like Varland, Thielbar, Jax, Stewart, etc. Not that they suck or anything, but I think that is where we excel. We are at our best in the 1st and 7th or the first time facing a pitcher and vs the bullpen (non closer).
  • I didn't post down defensive stats, but the Twins aren't some elite fielding team. They have issues in LF, 3B, & 1B. The main causes are Jorge Polanco (1B & 3B), Alex Kiriloff (when playing 1B), Jose Miranda (3B), Matt Wallner (LF & RF), Donovan Solano (1B, 2B, & 3B).

It has not been announced. Their top 2 will go on full rest in games 2 and 3. The most likely candidate is Joe Ryan, but it may be Bailey Ober.

Does anybody else think we should try an "opener" type of approach for 4th spot in rotation (maybe even 3rd). It just seems like we've got a wealth of guys (Brown, France, Urquidy) who could give us 2-3 good innings apiece - keep 'em on a short leash, etc.

If be curious to see the Twins stats comparing what they've done versus the AL Central and the stats against the rest of the league. The AL Central was terrible this year, and the for to play 13 games each against the Royals, Indians, Tigers and White Sox.

I'm also curious as to how they performed assist teams over .500.

I would guess not a true opener, but just a very short leash. Hope France gets thru the lineup once and if he's rolling to ride him. If not move on to Urquidy or Brown.

It's not like we have a lefty we can use to get us an advantage over Julien, Polanco, Kepler, & Kiriloff thru 2 innings.

That list is scary long. I don't want (in no particular order)

Brad Ausmus
Buck Showalter
Ron Washington
Jim Leyland
Tony LaRussa
Trader Jack McKeon
Mike Scoscia

Anyone else who played in the 70s or 80s or worse managed in the 70s or 80s

Take away KC, CLE, CHW, & DET.

wRC+
HOU - 112
MIN - 109

Offensively... not much of a difference.

I think the point he was making was that a Latin manager would be the best option. Not to limit the field to Latin coaches to check some sort of box.

790 just had a good interview with Omar Vizquel and they briefly touched on the 95 WS between Braves and Indians

Man the sheet star power of both of those teams was ridiculous….but that Indians lineup…holy crap

Lofton
Vizquel
Baerga
Belle
Murray
Thome
Manny
Sorrento
Sandy alomar

Just goes to show good pitching beats good hitting
