Well this is it boys

It sure feels like playoff baseball waking up this morning.

Today will likely have the largest swing in playoff odds for the rest of the season

It's also likely the last day the Astros have the deck stacked in their favor

With Toronto facing Cole and the Rangers in a relatively even pitching matchup with the Angels; the Astros get their "ace" on the mound against a rookie who has struggled in 2 of his last 3 starts.

A loss means mathematics is the only thing keeping your season alive which is ironic because math has seemingly been shunned at every opportunity throughout the season

Win and it's on to the next pre-playoff round against 2 NL Cy Young contenders...

Nothing with this team is easy this year.

Must see baseball tonight. Either because we save our season or to put a bow on a ugly September and a roller coaster season.

Last night bottom of 5, 2 outs

Javier walks so runners on 1st and 2nd Raleigh due up

Javier had struck out 2 and otherwise gave up single to Rojas.

Was at 92 pitches. Did not seem like right time to take out Javier and certainty not to bring in Montero with runners on.

I think there's a pretty good chance...we could see a fight tonight...if the game gets out of hand

those HBP's on Yanier and Chas were vicious

Makes you realize how convenient it has been to have the Astros bail us out of football misery the last several seasons

checking baseball reference...

Abreu is 3 for 30 vs. Seattle this year with 0 RBI

.382 OPS vs. the Mariners

oh my, didn't realize it was that bad

Max Johnson is really good. I feel like we'll be fine on that front

And Donkey will still be batting him 5th and Chas 7th. Who knows, maybe he goes back to splitting Tucker and Yordan up and moves Abreu into the clean-up spot. Nothing would surprise me from him.

they mentioned last night his career hitting averages (prior to this season) were the worst at Seattle...but they might have mentioned they were also bad in Houston. Small sample sizes I'm sure since he played in the AL Central - but still.....

I snagged some in the presale yesterday and was shocked at how many were available compared to the last few years. Also grabbed some for the Wild Card round, but I'm not expecting that to even be at MMP.

Basically, I feel like I gave the Astros an interest free loan until the end of the playoffs when I get my refund.

Yeah I got some for home game 1 (likely game 3) because home game 2 is the day where all 4 playoff series are on one day so you know that'll be the 1 PM

And yeah I'm not expecting the Astros to be there but can't hurt to get one with a possible refund later

Tbh, we don't deserve to make the post season. This is now a month long streak of suckage; maybe they just suck. Arms are dead, poor vibes throughout the team.

Off season wish list

Dusty gone
Maldy gone
Pressley demoted

Hope I'm wrong but I just don't have the confidence I used to have with this team to make a playoff spot. It's been a frustrating year with injuries, Dusty's constant asinine lineup shuffling, not playing Chas or Yainer enough, etc. On top of that the extension for Montero and signing Abreu turned out to be huge disappointments.

Get healthy. Acquire innings eater if not.
Bolster BP.
Play Chas and Yainer every day.
Rearrange batting order. (Abreu & Pena 7th or lower until they prove they belong higher. I'd prefer to dump Abreu, but we know we won't/can't. Keep Yordan and Tuck b2b.)

ETA: I guess I should specify. These are meant to be in addition to the above suggestions.

This season is a huge disappointment for a team that had every opportunity to close out the division except for stupid lineup moves by the manager. He needs to be gone as soon as the season is over.

I'm expecting a special performance tonight. Or maybe not.

I'll probably have the game streaming on my phone as I jump off the cliff tonight, just in case.

Mine is Dusty gone, Maldy gone, Jose Abreu gone (unlikely but still), Bryan Abreu promoted to closer, Pressly gets the 8th inning

Diaz full time catcher, Chas full time CF. And shore up the rotation. I'd rather have 9 good starting pitchers than 4 and more than likely there will be an injury to one of the guys you're depending on.

I weirdly still expect them to win tonight. But it will take the "right" Framber and the guys who shouldn't be in the lineup spots they're in finding an acorn.

Don't put it past Arlington to help Seattle no matter what happens tonight.

Good Framber and good defense would get the job done tonight. But you need both. It needs to look like Monday night's game from a pitching and defense standpoint

Pretty much a nightmare season.....

1. Dusty's gross mismanagement of the lineup
2. Dusty's gross mismanagement of the pitching
3. Massive underperformance from our "big" offseason signing
4. WBC injury to Altuve and missing the first 60 games
5. Luis Garcia early season-ending injury
6. Hunter Brown falling off a cliff
7. Javier following HB off that same cliff
8. Bregman falling off the cliff in September
9. Bullpen implosions led by a grossly overpaid Montero
10. Lack of clutch hitting with RISP
11. Playing like **** at home against sub .500 teams

Feel free to add to a seemingly endless list.

Dusty said he's tired of seeing his guys get hit by opposing pitchers. It's game 159 and Dusty finally said something, likely after the game while reclining in a chair and chewing on a toothpick.

This has to be his version of a social media troll job, right?

To me it's just been the most consistently inconsistent season.

Each week/series we look like a different team. It's either we look like the 2022 Astros or the 2012 Astros. And there really isn't an in between
Wabs

Good point about the severe inconsistency. I'd lay that blame squarely at Dusty's feet. Lineup change after lineup change and very rarely did they make any sense at all.

yall do realize we aren't eliminated from the playoffs yet, right?

While I hate Dusty like most here I still have my fingers crossed we will get in before I start making posts that should go in the offseason thread.

As much as Dusty has mismanaged this season, it's still the player's jobs to go out and perform.

Two things can be true and both parties can be responsible.

Certainly agree. The list I posted was kind of a mixture of Dusty, player performance, and injuries to very key players.
