Sparky was talking about it today on the radio.

He says his trouble has been that he's just not throwing enough FBs so guys were starting to just sit spin.

He said Pressly tends to forget about the FB and he's at his best when he throws more of them and hitters have to respect it.

Pressly' catcher splits are getting a little ridiculous

Maldy: 45.2 IP, 4.14 ERA, .669 OPS

Diaz: 15 IP, 1.2 ERA, ~.400 OPS

Probably too small a sample size as one blow up with Diaz catching can skew the numbers but based on other comments maybe Diaz is getting help calling his pitches and he's throwing the fb more with him

Jays could be that scary Wild Card team that comes in hot and battle-tested. They should face Cole twice and the Rays 6 more times. If they get through that they'll be primed for the playoffs

Diaz is better than maldy in literally every measurable statistic. Every single damn one of them.

Diaz is better than maldy in literally every measurable statistic. Every single damn one of them.


And Diaz is even better in the most important stat which is win-loss percentage, and this is the only other stat you could use if you are trying to argue Maldy has some unmeasurable intangible value.

You're right about that. And I've been thankful for what he's done. I really have wanted him to succeed. He's certainly done something special for our pitching staff over the years. Right now it's time for him to take a lesser role.

Diaz's numbers on a full season basis would be filthy and not only ROY level but all-star and MVP, at the most demanding position.

In a couple years that trade with Cleveland might start to be thought of along the lines of the Larry Andersen and Josh Fields trades.

It's freaking time.

Gotta sweep KC this weekend, have to.

They have lost 102 games and are 20-55 on the road. They are in the bottom 5 of all baseball for both runs scored and runs allowed.

Get this sweep, and you put 3 games between us and some combination of the Seattle and the Rangers.
