Interesting article on Fangraphs about why the Angels dumped everyone yesterday. They are just over/at the edge of the CBT level and that can impact the CO draft pick they would get for Ohtani. Its a 33rd round versus 5th. They potentially dumped $6MM in salary in the waived player. How much they same depends on how many get claimed. They need that $6MM off the payroll.

Thats how horribly they have been run.
Oh its true. They're run so poorly. I think I read / heard someone say that there was major internal conflict on how to move forward. Some wanted Ohtani traded and to start the rebuild. Others refused to trade Ohtani so they had to add.

Regardless, this move is fairly smart. It saves money and helps with the draft pick. A lot of teams would have too much pride to admit defeat weeks later.

Does this become a more regular thing in the future? Do teams shed salary at the waiver deadline who were unsure at the trade deadline? Does baseball like this? Is it good for the game? At least its exciting.
same things yanks are doing by DFA'ing Bader
Bader conned to Yankees last postseason by turning into the ghost of Mickey Mantle in CF for 2 weeks. He immediately reverted to form this season.

JMo pitched well for STL and got them prospects. Those two weeks were nice but ultimately didn't get them a single win vs Daddy. Yanks lost that trade.

Since we were told he was DHing. Yes.

Curious what everyone thinks…

How many more wins will it take to win the division?

I got 20-7 penciled down as the target.

93 wins I think is the mark.

So 17-11 to finish

Why wouldn't Brantley be in the lineup? We've got things to figure out and we don't have months.

My predictions

0-1 BOS (this could easily be a sweep)
2-1 NYY
2-1 TEX
2-1 SD
3-0 OAK
2-1 KC
1-2 BAL
2-1 KC
1-2 SEA
2-1 ARZ

17-11 finish (.607 win percentage the last 28 games)

Not saying that can't happen. Seattle just did it for Aug. But that is a 120 win pace for a full 162. I don't think we're going to do that or that it's going to take that. I would feel very good with 18 more wins.

I'm 100% certain that Maldy is catching today, but it's a really scary proposition to have Diaz catch either JV or Framber in the wild card round for the first time. There is a better than zero chance Diaz doesn't even play in the first two games of the wild card series because JV and Framber are your 1-2. Dusty absolutely needs to get him to catch one of those guys.

Assuming we go through the wild card, you have Yordan and Brantley splitting the LF/DH spot. Is Diaz going to start over Abreu at first base? Nope.

20-7 would put us at 96 wins. we win the division by 3 games (at least) with that record

We've lost a few. Two against Seattle (1-6 in those series at home), and one against Tampa

Going 1-2 against Baltimore means we split the season series with the best team in the AL. So not totally unrealistic we drop that series.

i'll go with:

1--0 BOS; framber looks great, bullpen shakey and bats take afternoon off
2-1 NYY
1-2 TEX
2-1 SD
3-0 OAK
2-1 KC
1-2 BAL
2-1 KC
2-1 SEA
1-2 ARZ

93 wins, win division

FWIW I thought Dusty was quoted as saying Uncle Mike would play LF yesterday and DH today.

I bet on Seattle last night and told my buddy "This is probably what it takes for Seattle to lose"

A few minutes after I placed the bet, Kirby was scratched and Seattle lost.

Is it time for a Rangers/Mariners parlay?

Did you take it as action ? There is an option to take baseball games with the starting pitchers or it defaults into a no action and you get your money back.

That's BS. In mine you can do either or just pick 1 starter if you want.

Sometimes it works in your favor, sometimes it doesn't.

I tend to get favorable lines in CFB and CBB from what I've noticed.

as expected...quite a few Hall of Famers feasted on the Astros thru the years

- Tony Gwynn had a .355 career BA vs. Houston. 320 hits vs. the Astros -- the most against any opponent

- Willie Stargell had a .922 career OPS vs. the Astros including 43 home runs

- Andre Dawson's OPS vs. the Astros (.857) is 50 points higher than his career OPS (.806)
Sammy Sosa hit 359 home runs off Jose Lima if I recall correctly.

And Carlos Zambrano was 73-0 with a 0.01 ERA and 15 no-hitters against us.

Jim Edmonds is part of my historical trifecta of centerfielders along with Fred Lynn and George Springer would would be first ballot HOFers, all-time greats if they could just stop getting hurt.

Mrs. Marvin is sitting beside Bregman's wife, manager, and hitting coach at Boston Logan. I told her to ask the coach to teach Alex how to not ground into double plays. Will advise response.
