His return would give the Astros a seasoned lefthanded bat. Brantley, an All-Star in 2021, slashed .288/.370/.416 in 64 games last season before his injury.

I didn't realize the Rangers were 1-9 in there last 10 games .. that's not a good formula for making a deep run in the playoffs ..

Yeah, I guess… Lf seems like a redundant spot though in the lineup though.

Take out his blow up from this month (9 ERs in 3.2 IP) he has pitched 21 innings and only given up 2 ER with 19 Ks and 8 BBs and 0 HRs in August.

Hopefully so. The cynic in me is a little worried that Brantley will be encouraged to shut it down for insurance purposes.

I think if he struggled at the plate during his rehab they would definitely go that route. However, as it appears he already has his timing down they likely will give it a shot despite the forfeit of an insurance payout.

Crane likely views it as spent money anyway and if you can get a guy of his caliber to join the team and contribute down the stretch that's huge.

Or maybe possibly this front office wants to win and they think Brantley is at a point where he can contribute to that goal so he's going to play.

Also, if I know insurance companies they're not going to take "We pressured brantley not to play so you would have to pay us" as an acceptable claim.

"It was a great play. I feel stupid doing that, but I thought, going to the dugout and making a play over the railing, just took off trying to be aggressive," Gallo said. "If he tilts over that railing or stumbles, it's going to be a really tough play for him. But he turned pretty quick. I tried to scamper back. Obviously I wish I didn't do that, but sometimes you take risks and they don't work out."

That looks like a somewhat accurate statement although a down month for him on average is still an all-star level player
