Smith has been a liability the past several outings. Earlier in the season he might put a guy on but I typically felt him in control. Lately not so much.

Imagine being Montgomery, pulled at 92 pitches during a 4-hit shutout only to watch the closer give up the tying run.

I feel for these pitchers with the extra innings rules man. Seward gets the soft ground ball from Jankowski to 2B and it's a runner on 3B with 1 out.
I feel the way about this crap that I used to feel about shootouts in high school soccer matches - you play this intense style of soccer for 80 minutes and then the match is decided in the equivalent of a slam dunk contest.Beat40 said:

I'm in the minority ... I love the extra innings rules for regular season. Not trying to stay up super late on a regular season game and it is non stop tension in a close one and completely fair to both teams. Definitely becomes more of a roll of the dice, but both teams put themselves in that position by not winning in 9.

Dumb intentional walk IMO when you do it to the go ahead run ... should at least pitch around and try to get the chase there

Based on statistics, games going past 11 innings happened only like 2% of the entire season the past several seasons. MLB said they put the rule in to keep games going into the 12th inning and beyond.
They put a "fix" in for a problem that occurs 2% of the time.

Pitcher left it right over the middle of the plate. Lowe is a good hitter and will crush those pitches. Poor pitch location on that pitch.

These awful announcers had a conniption at a bad call in the top half of the inning but had nothing to say about two in the bottom.
