Angels play the Rangers next up. They are skipping Ohtani in the rotation.
Knowing how stupid their owner is he probably dictated it...why? Well, the game is being played in Arlington and they're about to have a homestand and gotta have Ohtani on the mound to juice those attendance numbers at home to squeeze every last dollar out of the best player in the league.

Yes, I know he's been a little banged up lately and it could be related to that but I like my dumb owner theory better.

I think it's more a case of he's just banged up and tiring. Look at last night. Foul ball off his back knee.

All that stuff adds up and he's not getting the 4-5 days off that normal pitchers get.

He's an amazing freak specimen but it's also a case that he's going to be prone to wear and tear way more than a normal pitcher.

I could 100% see this. They are basically out of the playoff race and the clock is ticking on him being an Angel. I hate it, but don't really blame him.

If Yordan is capable of playing right field, I am fine with Maldy catching and Diaz DH. But I would prefer to see JV and Framber pitch to Diaz a couple of times in regular season to make sure they don't have to pitch to him in the post season as their first time.

Dusty tries so much stuff out in the regular season, it only seems natural to give every pitcher a few starts with each catcher. Imagine Maldy going down to injury and JV pitching to Diaz for first time ever in the ALCS, that would just be poor planning.

Next time Yordan is DH on JV and Framber starts, Diaz should be the catcher because that is a potential post season scenario we need to be prepared for.
I imagine this will happen. Didn't they do it with Vasquez last year?

Dubon actually has 3 hits and 3 walks in his last 3 starts

seems to have calmed down at the plate hitting in the bottom third

Explain how you compare that when Diaz never catcher Framber or JV…

Sooooo we're just no longer playing Tucker in right…

I would play Ohtani at home too if it was a choice. He's only got so much money left on that ticket and the Angels suck. Best cash in now.

since we're going down the rabbit hole...

let me blow up another myth...

in 1991 Pudge Rodriguez was a rookie catcher with the Rangers.

also in 1991 the Rangers had a crusty veteran starting pitcher named Nolan Ryan.

did Pudge catch any of Nolan's starts in 1991?

did Nolan allow him to catch any of his starts?

the answer is yes

Pudge was called up in June and was catching Nolan by July

I knew Jose was hot but I just looked and he's raised his BA 40 points in 5 days. From .280 to .320. That's insane.

Told my brother in law last night that Dubon would start at 2nd and Kessinger at SS after they came in the 9th. Dusty is so predictable.

Big lack of Diaz hurts for sure, but the bottom 2 in our lineup is going to be a total crapshoot anyways.

Also just shows how much time he's missed this season that he can raise it that much in a short amount of time.

I turned it on a little late but was Dana Brown just on the radio broadcast saying Brantley would go out for a rehab assignment in a week or so?

And they already had a platoon of Geno Petrelli and Mike Stanley. Not exactly apples to apples comparison.

If you somehow believe Uncle Mike can come back, you better have an answer to the question of "where is he playing?"

Because he's not taking time from Tucker, Yordan or anyone in CF and frankly he's not DHing with Yordan/Diaz doing that.
