Yeah, I like to keep it on auto-hide so I can come back and fap later
Yes, that sucked, but Hakeem was a greatly diminished player and didn't want to take a pay cut. He left for the money, and all things relative it wasn't that much either (I think $4M total).Farmer1906 said:tjack16 said:texasaggie2015 said:I would love to make Altuve a lifelong Astro, but this recent string of injuries is really making me think about it.Farmer1906 said:
I really want to do Altuve, but that's a lot to sink into someone so old. I am torn here.
Seeing Altuve in a uniform that's not the Astros would be unfathomable. That absolutely must be an extension they make happen.
Interesting. Thanks for the insight.texasaggie2015 said:It's a little bit of both. Some has to do with the way the Astros treated his brother. I have no details on what went down but I'm just passing along what I heard. There's some other things too that I don't know enough about to share because I would hate to give bad info.scrimp said:Is there bad blood, or does he just plan on going to the highest bidder, and believes the Astros will not be the highest bidder?texasaggie2015 said:
He won't.
Also, some has to do with the Astros very likely not matching the highest offer out there. Some has to do with the prospects that will be ready by then.
I've been told there's a "less than 1% chance" he comes back.
That said, things can change.. but that's where we're at as it stands right now.
just stop with these "insider"'info. You can't possibly know that.texasaggie2015 said:

He's been pretty good with his info and always caveats with "just what I'm hearing". It's not like he's acting like he has deep insight into the internal workings of the organization.JPN06 said:just stop with these "insider"'info. You can't possibly know that.texasaggie2015 said:

You'll probably end up being right, but it's not because of anything other than the Astros not typically offering these types of contracts.

Hopefully Hensley figured something out. He was pretty putrid last we saw him.

I don't want to toot my own horn but I think I've been pretty spot on several times before. I simply share what I'm told. But I can certainly stop if that's really what you want me to do.
I'll never claim to be an expert. I'll be wrong about some things. But I do have a lot of information and I probably share more than I should. I think most enjoy it.

You didn't know about and get the scoop on The Madris addition
Altuve took a ridiculously cheap deal to get paid early. It was basically 6 years at 25 M (4 @ 12.5 with 2 options years). Instead of just playing it year by year with those 2 option years, the Astros gave him a "7/163.5" extension, but it was more like tacking on a 5-year 151 M & fully guaranteeing his option years. His career earnings would have been 176 M but with Covid, it ends up more like 161 M after 2024. 161 is nothing to sneeze at, but you are right, it is not a lot in the mega contract era.W said:
circling back to Altuve...
his career earnings after his contract expires following the 2024 season will be $147 MM.
strangely enough that doesn't seem like a whole lot (in this mega-contract era) for a HoF player.
the total value of his next contract will have to be in the neighborhood of $100 MM -- he and his agent will want at least that much

Altuve to IL (probably). Not a big deal given the all star break coming
Your comment just reminded me of a NYT article on the subject (at least as to the Yankees), so I linked it documenting what you were saying as it applied to an entire country.Lonestar_Ag09 said:I know that none of them wear it to support the teams, but that's not the point. Hensley has a lot of versatility which makes him valuable off the bench during times like this. He's also on the 40 man roster already.
